Description ( blank )

( I feel like I should add that it's almost 4 years old drawing, since it was made in february )

Phew, 2016 is finally coming to its end and I've been seeing this thing going around again. I've never made one before, if I can remember right, because I've always felt I haven't improved enough to make one. I don't even know what is "enough", so I dug up one of my oldest drawings on this account and remade it. I know I should've used a piece "I loved" etc, but I don't remember what I used to love because I usually start disliking everything pretty soon after finishing it. But I remember at least liking this original version of Karkat and I actually spend some time on it. It's also one of the first pictures from when I started trying out the painting style the very first time, so in that way it gives a solid comparison.Β

I think it was pretty fun to make this, and gave me a little bit of an eye opening. I keep on drawing thinking "I need to get better, I need to get better" but no matter how far I go on I'm not satisfied since I never look back far enough. I stopped showing my drawings to my family and friends pretty much a decade ago and I often deny drawing as my hobby entirely when asked. But I see I've totally forgotten the beginning of my path and were I was at with my skills back then. I wish I had found my first human drawing from my older accounts to compare, but I couldn't. But after making this pic I feel pretty good about my skills for once. It's been over 3 years, and I could make a lot better version of my old drawings in much lesser amount of time. Plus it's fun to think that it's maybe possibly for me to progress just as much in upcoming 3 years.

I think I started talking a lot over the subject, but I just want to thank my watchers for supporting this dear hobby of mine, even tho I'm so ashamed of it in real life < ) Thank you a ton!

Loveliest Nawanen-sama, now I'm getting really, like - REALLY ANGRY AT YOU.
Just HOW can you DARE to be ashamed of your hobby! Please, just don't do that to yourself! Drawing itself is awesome - it shows that you've got creativity and passion inside of you that you want to express and share. That you're able of it - TRYING IT - and determined to get better. Stay true to yourself! You have one of the most amazing painting styles I got to know here on DA, and you're an incredibly kind person yourself!
There's nothing to be ashamed about - your hobby is meaningful and you've got true talent.
I once read a comic about artist's thoughts . Part of it said, like: You always have some idols you look up to, and want to become as good as them. Still, you feel you'll never be able to reach them, and in some moment, desperation gets you. But if you take the time to look further, you can recognize that they ALSO have people they look up to and think they'll never reach - and if you look back, you'll see there are people tho who YOU are that certain idol and that look up to you and admire you. Like me!

So, now to talk about the meme .
There are three things about it - first, your style itself clearly changed, then your methods improved, and then there are some things you just drew differently the second time.
So first things first, your style became a lot clearer - soft, yet clearly visible lines in the hair. You add more volume now, be it in the bangs or with the lips, and also put way more effort in colouring eyes and tears. The shapes are rounder.Β
Then, of course your light and shados usage improved a lot. When you pay attention to the folds at the cloth of the arms - which you added this time - they look natural. Same goes with the shadows at the face. There's a light source now, which doesn't seem to be the case with your older drawing.
Last thing is that the posture seems to be from a different perspective now - still the same, but the perspective is more pleasing for the viewer. His facial expressure also looks mor desperate-hopeless than desperate-enfuriated here .
All in all, I'd say that you improved a lot - your new style is lovely, it's expressive and beautiful at once . Of course there may be things you can still work on, but this is amazing .

But, by the way...where's the character from?!

I think you hit the point of the mind set of an artist alltogether. Oh, and to be honest I think I've totally forgotten to think about it that way, that those artists I look up to possibly are struggling too to match someone elses skills. Thank you for reminding me of that, it somehow makes me feel at ease knowing that feeling frustrated like this is pretty normal feeling to have : D

I feel like I should write a novel long answer, but I'm pretty speechless and don't know what to even say and I can not thank you enough! Thank you so much for encouraging me like this, it honestly means so much! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! β™₯β™₯

And the character is called Karkat from Homestuck, I used to be a huge nerd for the comic a while back :- D You might've heard it or seen it somewhere, but now that the "webcomic" has ended things might've gotten a little quieter?? Idk. But it's that one longass webcomic/game

I'm super happy to light up your day! >w< And maybe I'm too kind, but if I can help others like that, I'll glady accept it .

Of course it is normal! I'm feeling like that too lately, but then I remember myself about other artists around here and the comic and pull myself together . Glad I was able to remind you of such an important thing!

Haha, oh you're most welcome, dear Nawanen-sanΒ Β . You don't have to write any long answer! I notice that you liked it XD .

Aahh, Homestuck! I've seen so many amazing fanarts for this and never understood WHAT it actually was XD . Thank you for the information , maybe I'll search for it!
