Description
Tears like acid rain...Another sketchbook remix. I always loved the old version, but I never felt it was really whole and was at a loss as to how to finish it. It's relieving that I was finally able to complete the idea.
Also the first time I've ever tried brown ink, though I've had the pen for like a year haha. I like the soft effect it gives~

I've been so busy lately but now I have a break and I can give you critiques galore!
This picture's composition is very similar to the one you featured in your journal: [link] , but yours seems lighter in context. In this picture and in others, I really admire your ability to combine manga style artwork with surrealism. I find that very challenging; it's a great skill to have!
I really enjoy the surreal and abstract elements in this painting-such as the tears, the long white body, the smoky-cloudy effects in the background, and the way you inked in, on, and around the paint. This is very admirable! I would have been afraid to color outside the lines, but it looks very free and natural in this picture. The brown ink does look very soft and it provides a nice palette next to the purple, blue, and grey.
Now to the person! The realistic choices you made a very striking, but I don't favor them. For me, it disconnects me from the surrealism of the piece; however, that is just me and the realistic face with an abstract/surreal background can be interpreted and appreciated many different ways. The bright nails are so striking! They pop; they make me look at the picture. That's a great technique to use! I have noticed one thing you and I do alike. A lot of our characters look very similar. Not all of them, but I have noticed two things that are the same on nearly all of your characters: the nose and the eyebrows. This is not a thing to change or be concerned about, it's just something to think about. Another thing you may already do but I think is a great exercise when I am drawing is to think about my character and what they are going throught. Tell me if this helps!

Thank you again for your detailed observations! I appreciate it~
Yes, I definitely do put myself in my character's heads while drawing them, and try to feel what they would be feeling. Glad to hear you do the same thing, it really does work ^^
Although I've noticed the nose thing (I've just recently gotten more comfortable with drawing noses, as I've been working towards a more realistic style), I haven't noticed that with the eyebrows. But now that you point it out, I can totally see it. I guess I should switch up expressions more lol.
