the cloaking effect has been on my mind since 4 years ago. with the basic theory of using masking tools to achieve the effectbut it was stopped by the one fact that flash cannot support more than one symbols in a mask layer to mask properly
now, only recently, I finally uncover the hidden technic in masking and from there implemented my cloaking effect theory to it.
if i get enough intrest in people wanting to know how i do it, i may do a video tutorial of it
and yes, meow meow meow meow, I thought i be random a bit to the demo

hmmmmmm.
it looks to me like you're masking the BG to be a mm higher in the shape of the character- but leaving out the lines in the character so we get a feel for the character's forms?

lol just figured out how you do it without exporting then importing the swf file. do you keyframe everything outside then break them apart? i use masking for making shadows and rimlights. the problem i encountered with it though is when you sometimes break the symbol, particularly the head, it sometimes changes instance. i didnt realize making the moving mask could be so much easier.

yes, i break everything apart and flatten them to a layer, but, it gets even easier if you just export your animation as a image sequence, and reimport back the files, it cuts down alot of time to do the breaking apart.

haha i feel dumb... that scene repeated 5 times before i bothered to even think of pushing X...i thought it was part of the video not an action script thing in it.... haha

hmmm may i guess? did you make an swf file animation then import it to the scene, convert all frames to fill. then use silhouette animation as mask over another layer of the bg and other characters? then you offset the position of bg, lighten and use blurs? lol did that sound complicated? i really don't know much about making swf files light but that's one way i can think of.

yeap thats the way, but i didnt got all the way to export my swf and import it back... lol tooo tedious, i just do the animation and do the flattening after that.

haha nice, i'm looking forward to your tutorial. hope you get the time to do it. i want to see how you address the problem of using masks that are symbols that have multiple layers inside it. its been one of the things that really annoy me. that's why i do the export-import swf technique. but to be honest there are problems with that as well once you start breaking them apart.
i also realized just now why you said its only good for so many frames, coz once you use it for a long time, your file becomes really heavy with all the shapes broken.
