Description Be sure and download for maximum resolution! Lots of little details. :]

Nearly one year after And Magic Is Heresy and Commissar Sparkle finally graces my gallery again. This was immensely fun to draw despite the absurd amounts of heresy that come with crossing 40K and MLP. I'd begun sketching around two months ago but only within the last week did I finally start - *BLAM!* Heresy will not be tolerated!

Loosely based on The Dark Ones and it's sequel.

EDIT: Mirrored just cuz. And number 24 in the Drawfriend! Thanks a lot, you guys! www.equestriadaily.com/2015/07…

Wow, I just love how gritty Twilight is here, and all the little details, oh my flipping Lord. Especially like he little wounds and spattering textures, also how real the metal bits of her clothing are,  nicely done. ^_^

Is it strange that I when I hear "The Dark Ones" I instead think of Metro 2033? >_>

Fantastic piece!!! ...even though the only 40K exposure I have was that Space Marine 3rd person shooter xD

Which is a fantastic game mind you.  I am an avid player of the tabletop with the Imperial Guard, and of all the videogames I have found, Space Marine arguably has the best and most accurate characterization of the Imperial Guard to date.  Commissar's like Twilight up there are Imperial Guard officers tasked with keeping up Morale on the front lines, usually by executing those who try to retreat.

Oh it was fantastic! They did a wonderful job not only with presenting the atmosphere, but also taking tried and true game mechanics it was borrowing from (Gears of War) and putting a truly unique and fun spin on it with all the melee combat. MMmmmm I love fighting in those Orc hordes :-3

...  The game was not using the game mechanics of Gears of War...  It was using the same mechanics as Darksiders, its a 3rd person shooter/hack and slash with emphasis on getting stuck in in melee and standing out in the open for the most part.  Gears of war is a 3rd person shooter with emphasis on staying as far away from the opponent and shooting at them from cover.

Ah, that does sound correct. I've never played Darksiders, so >_>

It goes without saying Gears had huge inspiration from the Space Marine concept which obviously predated it (chainsaw weapons, big bulky line backer armor).  But Gears of War did the shooter game thing first as far as I know.  I guess what reminded me of it was the use of close quarters third person shooting with no hesitation to get super close.  But yes most definitely: Space Marine encouraged getting super close, whereas in Gears, while it wasn't frowned upon (chainsaw bayonet, shotguns, sticky grenades), it wasn't always the safest strategy at times xD.

Yeah that's fair, I'm used to playing gears on the harder difficulties with my dad, which is pretty much "spray and pray, or die" most of the time it feels like.  Although, in all honesty I do feel like gears of war probably didn't have much inspiration from Warhammer 40k in general, simply because the armor, while being bulky is nothing like Space Marine bulky, and honestly, its a well known fact that guns are awesome, and that chainsaws are awesome, so putting the two together will result in double awesome, I feel like that's a concept that could easily have come to the developers mind by themselves.

Also I apologize if I am acting really contrary, I just like debating >.<

I'm quite the devil's advocate myself, so I enjoy my fair share of conversing for the sake of conversing haha. I swear I heard somewhere though that Cliff Bleszinksi was a 40K fan though... ¯\(o_o)/¯ Who knows

HERSEY *BLAM*

For someone who just recently fell into the depth that is the W40k fandom, I have to say awesome work.
Now we just need Commissar Sparkle facing that rampaging Yak WAAAGGHH! and the innocence of MLP will finally be gone.

But as you know ... Innocence proves nothing.

Have you seen NCMares other Commissar Twilight picture?

It has an amazing quote to go with it.
"Will you accept my friendship Twilight?"
"I remember from so long ago, princess. . .  But Friendship is Magic.  And Magic is Heresy...."

As for the quote, it was what inspired me to do my quote here.
