Description Welp, I've lost my patience inking that SEAL sketch and ended up messing around with extra layers and effects which culminated into this....and I actually love it!
The rough lines gives it a chaotic look. o.o

Call in the AC-130 for CAS!!

FIX: Added IR US Flag, deleted some highlights and augmented some contrasts

One of my favorites, the representation of IR and ambient light is really great.

Ah well, there isn't much color work though haha, it's just a overlay layer over a grayscale sketch

Great understanding of light

It's so crazy how many pieces of high quality rendered work you managed to put up in the duration of 6 months, makes me wonder just how far can i really go just doing sketches... I could only do sketches with whatever time i have left because of uni

Haha cheers mate, gotta put all that free time into good use~ *.*

Been slowing down dramatically in the past month, guess it's all a matter of motivation and how much effort you're willing to put in a given space of time. :/

fish333 In reply to NDTwoFives [2014-10-09 12:12:58 +0000 UTC]

True, true. Without motivation and passion trying to get anything done can start to look impossible, my assignments are all about drawing and rendering and it kills off any motivation left to do personal work.

Keep up the good work, you don't seem far from being able to do industry standard illustrations...

My sincere apologies for such a late reply, but nonetheless thank you man for the encouragement.

As you could see probably nothing much occurred in my gallery since october, it's probably other factors such as bad daily routines that are getting in the way of my goals but i think it's my lack of confidence in the digital realm that's pulling me back. Some habits are hard to overcome, but i know delaying myself from creating more stuff and improving my skills is an act of self betrayal XD

You are getting quite adept at applying light effects to give 2D images a more 3D look, i'm captivated by your new works because they seem much more vibrant and yet not too saturated, great stuff indeed. You should try doing photobashing because it seems like you have plenty of experience with digital medias.

Hm,  photobashing sounds like a interesting option, saw it around in concept work especially. Time to work out that digital painting base. @.@

I thought getting good enough at details would be better than having to rely on photos, but when it comes to the realistic texture and surface materials along with adding lights to them. It would be meticulously difficult because every little scratch haves to be unique and the variation of tonal values would be insanely overwhelming. Photobashing is more obvious but the  whole process is much much more simple and saves heaps of time, i don't think any traditional technique could ever come close to what photobash can achieve...but i might be wrong

Hauntingly emotive piece.  Love it.  It reminds me strongly of one of the scenarios my female protagonist finds herself in in the novel I'm writing.  And I can't help but hear Guns 'N Roses' "Welcome to the Jungle" as I take it in.  "The Only Easy Day Was Yesterday", indeed.

now that I really look I can see an american flag on her shoulder. I thought only SFOD-D used the SCAR? She has that helmet the D-Boys like to use I'm far more aqainted  with WWI and WW2 uniforms. present day? not so much.

SOCOM is Navy Seals

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MiG-OKb In reply to Tevo77777 [2014-04-04 00:59:20 +0000 UTC]

SOCOM is in charge all the command components of all the special forces of the US Military, Army, Navy, Airforce,Marines. It started after the 1980 Iranian Hostage Crisis when it was realized they needed a unified command.
I was talking about SFOD-D, Special Forces Operational Detachment Delta (Delta Force). Last I checked (mind you, this was a few years ago, I don't stay up to date like I used to) only they were issued the SCAR

IamAnAnimefan001 In reply to MiG-OKb [2014-06-30 20:45:12 +0000 UTC]

From what I heard I thought they were allowed to choose their gear. If they did they might have asked for the SCAR for their teams.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

TChenArt In reply to MiG-OKb [2014-04-04 04:14:10 +0000 UTC]

the SFOD-D doesn't exactly have a standard issue weapon. similar with most other special forces units, they have more flexibilty in what to use, depending on the mission requirements, preference, etc. if attached with a conventional unit they'd use weapons of similar calibre for logistics reasons
the SCAR isn't exclusive to the Unit, but it is widely accepted by it

MiG-OKb In reply to TChenArt [2014-04-04 05:21:55 +0000 UTC]

I knew that too, you want better stopping power in a hostage situation and vice -versa. I heard that they still use the M3 Grease gun in some environments because the guts of the gun are so loose that if dirt or sand got in it, it would just fall out instead of gumming it up. And naturally if you have a squad you want to issue them all the same ammo. They got some gun out there that can be switched between 5.56 NATO and 7.62 x 39, I don't recall but I don't need to state that that'd be good in situation when you oppenents are armed with Warsaw Pact weapons.

I read that during the Battle of Mogadishu the 5.56mm and 9mm rounds were ineffective against the militants. They were all high on a local oppiate (khat) and cpouldn't feel pain si they wouldn't drop until they were literally dead. After that I think SFOD began reissuing Colt 1911's again, but I could be wrong.

HollywoodMarine2171 In reply to MiG-OKb [2014-04-08 01:51:57 +0000 UTC]

Sorry but I can't help but to jump in on this. The rifle that can switch between 5.56 and 7.62x39 is the Remington ACR. Well actually the Magpul Masada, which is the pre-production version of the ACR. Remington/Bushmaster bought the design from Magpul and made a few changes. I don't know yet it the Remington ACR has the 7.62 conversion ability yet. I know the Bushmaster model still does not. ACR is can also use the 6.8 SPC which was made with input from members of SOCOM.

As far as I know USSOCOM has a current contract with Daniel Defense a couple thousand or so M4 style rifles. The SCAR has been pretty popular with SOCOM from what I have heard. Although like previously said SOCOM generally has more freedom with their choice of weapons. However they seem to generally stay with weapons that can accept the M4/M16 30 round magazine.

One more thing. Delta doesn't really have a standard issue handgun. I believe some still carried 1911. The Rangers on the other had to carry the 9mm M9.
