Description
where is the animation Category for digital work? :ENeed some help please :C It's a generic walk cycle of my character Sekae but she is supposed to have a slight limp on that "jerky" back leg but I failed to make it look like a limp and it just looks like I messed up the frames -sad face- she walks all lazy and depressed like lol hence the slight swaying from side to side .3.
and lol headless animation
any crits are welcome and links to good references (preferably videos of real animals ) would be cool too c:
all my animations are made in Gimp2.6
Please note Sekae is a MANED WOLF aka Kalak they walk differently to normal canines.

It looks good! I'm probably really late to give a critique, but I really like how the paws snap up. One thing you could change or add, is more weight. It feels a little weightless, and especially if she has a limp, there should be more of a 'down' on the legs!

Never to late for a critic <3 and thank you ,i have a lot of trouble adding weight to my animations ,is there any tips on how i could add that "down weighty" feel ,maybe a sorta slump in the body slightly with legs sticking to ground just a little longer ?

Let's see, I would definitely make the shoulder go down farther, because it seems to stay up at the top for the most part. And then, Maybe bend the joint a little more, and hold the 'down' position longer. Once you add the head (or if you have already) the bob of the head will also help the weight show.

I would also definitely look up an animal (fox, dog, wolf, etc) on youtube and study their walks to see which one would fit yours the best since they all have a sort of unique way of walking. I made a quadruped walk cycle sometime last year, and although mine doesn't have a lot of weight to it, you can go through the frames to see the positions of the feet (our teacher had given us this chart that shows where the feet usually were in a quadruped walk so at least that part is right on mine, otherwise there is some silly stuff going on it, like the shoulders and the tail lol) [link] Anyway, I really love animation so I hope this was helpful to you!

she's a maned wolf which walk differently to normal canines ,i found some videos but not of the best quality because kalaks aren't that well known but they do indeed help a lot xD i wish i just wasn't so lazy lol i seem to dive into it with full motivation but with each frame i get lazier and less motivated till it just looks sloppy and when i call it a day i most normally just forget about it never touching an art piece for months ,your cycle is really good ;; it has so much character despite the fact it has no color and i love it's simple yet effective form ,you can tell straight away it's a happy fox just trodding along lol.

Animation is definitely a grueling process, especially when you put hours of work into it and it just doesn't work. I actually had to redo that fox walk like three times and I was so frustrated with it. I love animation, but yeah it can be really frustrating to do or you just don't feel like doing it all xD But it's alright, you just gotta get back to it and do what you can. Animation took me forever to 'get' and I still don't get it quite well ha! It's an interesting thing. And thank you! It could definitely use a touch up though eheh

I look at it long enough and the walk reminds me of a penguin, lol
But I still think it is awesome. :3

That looks awesome o: And really smooth!
To do a good limp, you must think about what it is that's going on when someone limps. They protect the leg, by putting less weight on it, and one of the ways to do that is to keep it off the ground for as long as possible. Sooo.. you need to keep the leg on the ground shorter time than the other back leg Cause right now, it seems they're both on the ground rougly the same ammount of time apart from a bit at the end.
You might also notice a dog with a more severe limp with pick the leg up higher than the others. Hope that was helpful 8D
I hope you finish this oooo: It looks sooo cool already!

Thank you and yeah I realize my mistakes now xD I'll work on that leg and also I noticed the back lags and bops a bit much on a few frames o3o
I'll finish it once I finish the commissions lol xD;

is really good, for limps id suggest making that leg touch the ground for less frames than the others? XD
Also stiff tail is stiff XD
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
NecktiePom In reply to Kaylimepie [2011-10-15 09:10:39 +0000 UTC]
yeah I'll do that :'D
Tail is stiff because she uses them as balance , because she is limping she needs them more than normal so even though they look like they can flow everywhere (and they do normally ) they have purpose to serve as an extra balance and deterrent to other animals (they look like bright glowy eyes lol )

Kaylimepie In reply to NecktiePom [2011-10-16 06:39:58 +0000 UTC]
I know but even stiff tail will flow, if that makes sense, like it will move smoothly while still being in roughly the same position XD

on the limp: make the hip go up higher when that foot hits, and make it be on the ground for less time. plus let the front legs go maybe a half step faster (if you look at animals, their back feet hit first, then the front on the same side, then the back goes up first, then the front on that side. look at my "thestral aniamtion" it's slower, and doesn't have a limp, but you'll see what i mean about the feet falling at different times. The walk is a four beat step, this only has two beats.

yeah I realize my mistakes now thanks and plus she's supposed to walk with two beats I think it gives more character and more sway to her walk but I'll probably add a few more frames in (she walks fast paced but lazy and tired ) if she was to walk slower I'd make it 4 but it's borderline trot/walk C:

This looks really, really good! FFF :>
Hm, maybe if you showed the shoulder blades/the back curving (OTL I can't word this right) but you know when you watch [big cats particularly] walk their shoulder blades go up a bit and it reflects a sort of gait to their step? Maybe if you played around with that it might give more of an impression to a limp if you tweak it right (and more character to her stride?) ouo ~ *attempts to be helpful yay*

NecktiePom In reply to lyingfawn [2011-10-14 19:18:58 +0000 UTC]
ah yeah I normally add the shoulder blades during linearting you can see a little on the first few frames like little hints but not much :'D but I need to work on the back arching a bit more as it lags quite a bit D8. I think I should probably make the limp leg go up faster than the other legs and then down but stay on the ground for a shorter time as it hurts to put pressure :'D but gah so annoying lol.

SHE'S GOT SWAGGER. xD
If I was in anyway good at animation, I'd help.
It looks really good and I can see where you're
trying to make her look as though
she's limping. Good luck, Twi!
