Description
I did an Amalgam concept that merged the Doom Patrol and the Fantastic Four. Its a big concept where Dr. Doom was part of the team, but he is merged with Niles "Chief" Caulder. So he became Victor Von Caulder. Reed Farr/Richards (?), Susan Dayton, Johnny/Larry Dayton, and pictured here Ben Steele were also on the team. The five go into space and are hit by cosmic rays and go crashing to Earth. Reed became able to manipulate the molecules of his body allowing him to grow, shrink, stretch, his body. He called himself Mr. Elastic Fantastic (?). Susan became able telekinetic abilities, Reed builds her a helmet to help her control these and eventually she doesn't need it and her powers grow. She calls herself Mento. her brother Larry or Johnny (?) became able to release his flaming astral self leaving his living body behind, he called himself the Negative Torch.Ben Steele, again pictured here, was transformed into a living organic robot. His skin was turned metal, his organs became artificial machinery, etc. He became a Robot Thing. He also became stronger, never needed sleep, or eating, and, the best part in his opinion, when he got damaged he could be rebuilt. He is constantly getting damaged, loosing arms, legs, everything by his left arm, left shoulder, and head, etc. He charges head first and never thinks of his own safety and never gives up.
Victor Caulder gained no powers what so ever, in fact his spine was injured in the crash making him unable to walk or move anything below his ribs. He decided he could still help, he sort of started the group's heroic life as their leader and organizer and tech support (like Bruce in Batman Beyond or Finch in Person of Interest). He called them the Doomed Four and he code named himself Chief. Little did anyone realize that Victor was starting to resent the team. Later on, after rebuilding Ben enough times Victor built himself a suit of armor that allowed him to walk again. He joined them in battle and renamed himself Doctor Doom. But the dynamic was a little different now and his resentment had grown more. At a point in one of their battles he turned on his team and attacked them. He left the group after that, and Susan's brother renamed the team after Reed's code name, the Fantastic Patrol. Victor returned to his homeland in Latveria where he worked his way to the top in a short time and became their president, which under his rule was changed to President for Life and he ruled with an Iron Fist.

That is one of the coolest concepts I've ever heard/read. Do you still have the concept art or is it lost to time?

I have it in a storage crate in a warehouse somewhere. I never throw art away, which makes it hard to find sometimes. Thanks for liking my concept. Like I said though to get the idea out fast I traced. Been meaning to redraw in my own style someday.

Neat backstory, and the Robot Thing is pretty cool.

Well thank you. What was the best about it if you don't mind me asking.

A lot of little things - varying line weights, solid design, and he looks like he's actually standing heavy on his feet (a lot of peoples' character drawings including occasionally mine look like they're floating to me)

Thanks. The line weight is me, I guess. Never thought about it though.
But I nearly forgot. I drew Robotman's design over a drawing of the Thing.
So, while I hesitate to not take credit for that, the weight of the character standing there may be from that drawing.

Maybe, I am not saying its impossible that I might have drawn that in my interpretation of it.
The Robot Thing in the shirt and pants came from a Mike Wieringo drawing of the Thing.
But, my animation college emphasized things like giving weight to the characters. So I would have been sure to add that in too.
