Description Holy shizzit, this took a long time to make. I spent up to 4.5 hours, today alone, finishing this emote. I was inspired to finish it because of the recent newfound "fanhood" of my Pillow Fight emote.

Overall, I spent between 7 and 8 hours on this (mostly in creating the 165 frames in the GIF). I really hope the frames run correctly. ^________^ Enjoy, all!

Cheryl asked me to drop by and critique, because apparently I have some knowledge in this area.

Anyhoo the premise behind this is nice. You\'ve got the basic characters and expressions looking alright, and animation wise it\'s fairly smooth.

Critique wise, I\'ll troop through and look at things you could improve on:

There\'s a lot of excess space in this one which I think is not really needed, especially on the left hand side. Over the majority of the emote it\'s just space which is unnecessary, and it can be cut without effecting the whole outcome of what you\'ve done here.

The emotes characters themselves look a tad flat. This is more a personal preference for me, but perhaps you could attempt giving them some shading, in the end giving them some volume. For instance you could apply a circular gradient on the layer below the colour layer (light in the top left, shadow in the bottom right), then put set the colour layer to Screen, opacity to around 85%. This\'ll give you a nice little shading style that will go across the emote and give it some volume.

I\'d look a bit more indepth on things like the pixelling of the objects, but I\'m aware that this may not be your forte, so that will come later

Keep it up

-Tom

regarding the space, I had originally intended for all three characters to be in the picture at once. when finished, i didn\'t think twice about the excess space i might go back and see how much space i can eliminate without losing its effect.

as for the emotes being flat, I have a trial version of Animation Shop 3, which will only run in June and July 2004 (resulting in me having to do clockwork on my comp ). the newer versions of Paint Shop Pro do not have such flaws, making it impossible for me to do my shortcut way of shading. and after completing this, I really don\'t feel like going back and redoing the frames.

when i created my pillow fight emote, it started as black and white, and i filled them in with PSP, creating the standing out effect. I suppose it would have been possible to shade the emotes myself, but the thought just never occured to me...

Thank you for your time and critique!

Aye, it does get frustrating to go back and change existing works. But sometimes they stick in your mind and you remember them next time.

For manual shading, *camelhijackation has a quick and simple method up in his gallery for pixel shading. It works a treat, and looks ever so smooth.

The critique was a pleasure, and I\'ll happily do it again!
