Description

The Tianiw is a very human like race that originate from the planet Acheron. Acheron was a planet with photosynthesis producing nitrogen dioxide instead of oxygen, and that have made it very hard for them to colonize other planets as the galaxy is far more abundant in oxygen-producing biochemistries: if the nitrogen dioxide level in the atmosphere is lower than 20%, they suffocate. They are carbon based with their DNA forming a binary helix structure, and their nitrous carrying protein is cobalt-iron based. When Ranjath, Acherons parent star, started showing signs of prematurely dying in a nova roughly 1200 years ago, they entered a state of civilization-wide crisis, and had to rapidly develop space technologies and propulsion barely even theorized just decades earlier. Physiologically they are very similar to humans, so much so that several conspiracy theorists have suggested that the long-extinct Precursors actually created one, or both, species from the same template, and while that´s been proven wrong, Tianiw soldiers often use human armor. The sexual dimorphism to Tianiw is identical to that of humans, with males, on average, being somewhat taller and more muscular than females, and females having slimmer waists and shoulders, and larger breasts. Their culture is more militaristic and disciplined than most other species, as they have had to follow the chain of command ever since leaving the homeworld. Having relied on their civilian fleet for the survival of their species, most adult Tianiw are good physical engineers and architects, and mostly all students study to become either, they can't join the marines or become explorers until after graduation anyway. During the evacuation the long-haul sublight flotilla organized by the combined national governments and various interest groups carried some twenty million people in cryogenic stasis and another million crew. During the destruction of their homeworld most religions was wiped out, the religious leaders had the opinion that they shouldn't leave their own planet and that evacuation wouldn't matter: there's no way to escape the gods wraith. Still, after almost 1200 years, the oldest ships in the civilian fleet are the Command Arks that was built for the evacuation, however severely updated, when the evacuation was begun they had never been outside of their system before or reached speeds higher than a percent of light speed. Today their technology is at level with the EUN, which they have as largest trade partners. The average lifespan for a Tianiw is about 170 years, somewhat shorter than a humans. Though their populations have grown significantly in the centuries since their contact with the galactic community and colonization of biochemically compatible worlds, it has remained steady below 14 billion and is unlikely to climb much higher.

The Command Hierarchy was originally the organisation responsible for the evacuation from the homeworld, but is considered an actual state as they handle all government functions and is the de-facto political voice of the people from Acheron. Due to the massive energy signature and number of vessels they was first believed to be an attempted invasion when Sepentin picked them up on scanners in 1923 CC, however remembering the mistake they made when discovering the Navicians, the Sepentin fleets sent to investigate didn't open fire. The following year the Alliance and the Tianiw worked to translate their language, and 1924 they could completely understand the aliens and was granted embassies on the Alliances major worlds, and full membership in 1955, filling a production and transport role. The capital still is the massive military starship Sarwitho, an Ark that has been refitted to serve a military role classified as a Capital Ship. The civilian fleet is currently standing at around 185 000 ships, however they are almost unarmed and unarmored, and the military fleet is at 22 500 ships including several Dreadnoughts, a hundred battlecruisers, and over a thousand carriers. The marine corp is about 5 250 000 soldiers, with an additional million counting non-combatants. The Hierarchy's is considered a semi-democracy, where an elected civilian government is responsible for legislative matters, but can always be over-ruled by the military command if the admirals believe the decision can harm their defensive capability. The population of the territory controlled by the Hierarchy is estimated to around 24 billion across fifteen systems, about half of which are Tianiw-built synths.
