Quite possibly! And by now the toy versions of the characters would have been redesigned to look all hip and cool, and old-school fans would fill wiki pages up with info on the various versions of the characters. And I'd be able to buy plushes.

You're right.
In the info, the FNAF 1 characters are the newer ones than the Toy ones. Also, I really noticed that the endoskeletons of the FNAF1 characters are much thinner and less parts than the toy and withered ones, meaning that the FNAF1 characters are more hi-tech, the motors are servos are inside the endoskeletons, and the wires in the other parts are installed inside the suits.
Maybe, if the Freddy Fazbear's Pizza was existing, they are more attractive than Chuck E. Cheese, because they are hi-tech, they can walk around and entertain the customers with safety features.^v^

I get the feeling that Scott originally planned FNAF2 to take place after FNAF1, with the old characters being replaced by the new ones, and then partway through he decided to make it a prequel for the sake of backstory. Let's face it, how much sense does it make to replace new, pretty, more-merchandisable character designs with clunky, hippo-faced, scary ones?

Look, the first animatronics in Fredbear's Family Diner is the Golden Freddy and the Spring Bonnie. In the second generation, Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, the new animatronics arrived, with new characters Chica and Foxy the pirate. But then, they are old and withered, so the Fazbear entertainment planned to make more kid-friendly and plastic made animatronics. The toys are born. They also said that the old animatronics are used for parts, so the withered Bonnie lost his face and arms, maybe some of their chips are used to program the toy animatronics.
Then, another time, the Fazbear entertainment needs to close, but they start to make a pizzeria again (see the newspaper at the ending of FNAF2) in just small budget, so the pizzeria's area was just small, unlike the old pizzeria has many rooms. And the new animatronics (the ones in FNAF1) are made.

Ahh, OK. I was thinking of Scott redesigning his characters, not the pizzeria owners. I'm with you now.
It never made sense that they would make the "new" animatronics in FNAF 1 closer to the old, ugly ones rather than the toy versions, but then people in high positions can make dum-dum decisions. The CEO's kid probably liked the older versions, so he gave the order to go with those. That's how we got Jar-Jar Binks, so I've heard.
I've been working on un-withering Spring Bonnie. That's going to be easier than drawing Springtrap. That's gonna be ugly in more ways than one.
