Description
Here's a quickie illustration for Masks , a story I wrote earlier this year. I was in the mood today to draw something quick and simple, so here's Gonzo reading to his half-chicken daughter Billie. Sickeningly cute, huh?Related content

Gonzo the Great ought to have a "World's Greatest Dad" mug!

I wonder if little Billie would speak in English (like Gonzo), or in clucks (like Camilla)?Β

She'll growe up bilingual.Β She'll mostly speak English, since that's what nearly everyone speaks, but since she's the focus of the motherly instinct of a half-dozen hens she'll also cluck fluent Chickenese.

I love it. Gonzo and Camilla are my all-time favorite couple and I've always wanted to see them have a baby. You did good.

This is just so darn cute and the choice of the book they're reading is truly a classic.

I wanted to make the book authentic, so I bought a copy on Amazon. And I enjoyed reading it, and remembered little details of the artwork, even though it's been almost 40 years since I last read it. It's such a cool little book.

It's GROVER! He's the monster at the end of this book! Oh, it still cracks me up to this day X3 .
Gonzo would be such a "my dad's so weird but I adore him to bits" dad.

That book is so clever. My favorite line is "Do you know that you are very strong?"
I imagine Billie would feel sorry for people with ordinary dads who won't let them near cannons.

Oh, yes . Definately a book I'd give to my kids. It would be just as amusing to me as it is to them.
True, that. Gonzo would be a bit more of a permitting father. So long as beavers stay away from wooden poles whilst one is playing a Mozart piece on the bagpipe on top of it.

I can see Gonzo raising a kid to follow her muse, no matter what it is, and always have good health insurance. In this family, a chicken may be the voice of reason.

M'kay, can't even stand how incredibly ADORABLE this is. Seriously. Not only is Billie probably one of the cutest little chickens I've ever seen, but they are reading my absolute FAVOURITE childhood book too! They look like they're having such a wonderful time together! I adore moments like these!
The fur/feather texture is wonderfully done and I love how tiny Billie is. X3 You did great work with the book page manipulations as well!

Thank you, I'm glad you like my picture! I'm glad you recognized the book. I thought it was hilarious when I was a kid, and I still think it's pretty funny, the idea of a character in a book trying to keep you from reading the book. That's some serious meta there! And the writing was so good, I could hear everything in Grover's voice. It stuck so firmly in my memory that, when I wanted to write a scene with Gonzo reading with Billie, this came first to mind. And it gave me an excuse to buy a copy of the book, which brought back some very fond memories.

This is just too adorable!
And they're reading "A Monster at the End of this Book"!!! My all-time favorite Sesame Street book! (did you know they made a sequel with Elmo and Grover???)
Gonzo and Grover! My top two favorite muppets! Epic win!!!!
And the details on the book are astounding! It's EXACTLY like the book!
Love this!

Thanks, glad you like it. It's no wonder I have the book spot-on. I scanned several of the pages! It fit the theme of the story so well: sometimes the things you fear aren't that bad after all if you just meet them head-on rather than hiding from them.
I don't have the sequel with Elmo. Kim no like Elmo. Elmo makes Kim's teeth ache.

yeah, same goes for me with Elmo, but I got it super cheep when Borders books was closing.... same concept... Grover is scared about the title and tries to keep the reader from advancing the story. Meanwhile, Elmo is excited and tries to keep sneaking through the pages - which freaks Grover out...

Elmo even freaks other monsters out? I'm not surprised!
My niece had one of those talking Elmo dolls. It was supposed to chatter when its motion sensor detected something, I guess, but when I slept in her room one night that evil little thing kept going off! I finally had to bung it in the closet, and it STILL kept yammering to itself. I dubbed it the "exorcise me Elmo."

LOL, my sister had a similar thing happen with her Barney doll. You had to press a button in it to get it to say one of 3 things, and a separate button had the "I love you" song. Even when my sister freaked out and tossed it out of her bed - away from anything that could press the button - it still went off every 4 minutes or so....
