Description The local Pagan Student Alliance asked me to paint an altar tile for them. This is the result.

They asked for something that included more religions than Wicca. In clockwise order starting with the red circle.

We have the World Circle, a circle bisected by a horizontal line and a vertical line. This symbol can mean many things including; a symbol of Odin for the Norse Pagans (Asatruar), the symbol of the earth for some Native American tribes, the symbol of earth for astrologists, for Catholics it is the symbol of a halo and can be used to bless new churches, and there are several other societies that have this or similar symbols.
The World Circle is also known as the Solar Cross, and is a symbol of the seasons, the classical elements and the Sun.

The Hammer, Mjolnir, is a symbol of the Asatru, the Norse Pagans. Those who honor Thor and many others wear this symbol.

The Triple Moon is a symbol of the the Goddess acknowledged by no few Wiccans, Witches and Goddess Worshippers. The phases of the moon are understood to reflect the Triple Goddess' three commonmost expressions: Maiden, Mother and Crone.

Then the Eye of Heru, commonly known as the Eye of Horus (the Greek name for Heru.) This symbol of protection and power is used, alongside the more common Ankh, by those Pagans who give honor to the Egyptian Gods, also known as Kemetic Pagans.

Next, we find the symbol of the Discordians, those who give nod to the power of the Greek Goddess Eris and the Chaos she is unresponsible for. The symbol itself is the sacred Chao, which represents stuff. If you think I'm being vague or difficult here, I'm really not - we can't be responsible for what the Discordians haven't been.

Next to last is the Triquetra, a Celtic knot which is best recognized because of it's use on the tv show Charmed and because it's a relatively easy to find design for jewelry. For the Celtic Pagans it can mean quite a few things, ranging from the three realms (Land, Sea and Sky) to the three facets of triplicity Gods, such as Brighid. Additionally, the Triquetra has historical precedence in some Scandinavian areas, where it is of uncertain meaning.

Lastly, we have the (much maligned by movies) pentagram. Used by a variety of Pagan groups, this symbol is most strongly associated with Wicca for whom it symbolizes the four elements (Earth, Air, Fire and Water) under the power of Spirit and surrounded by the sacred circle of life. In Ceremonial Magic, practitioners may use symbols like the pentagram for specific rituals as well.

The tree itself is a common motif in numerous religions, including many who do not identify as Pagan. From Yggdrasil to the Bodhi Tree, trees are prominent in religions the world over as bridges between the Gods and the world and the dead, as symbols of life and death, and as expressions of wisdom in the observation of nature.

Yep. It still needs to be layered in finish, which I have yet to order, but it's pretty well finished.

This is awesome! I must say I'm amazed to find Discordianism on a pagan plate... partly because I never truly associated it with paganism, and partly because I was under the impression that very few knew about it.

The tree itself is stunning. Even if you didn't know what it meant, you would recognize the life cycle of the tree.

This looks great, I wish I had one.

Thanks so much for the comment! We've had a few Discordians in the Pagan Student Alliance at my college, thankfully.

I do make them on commission, if you're interested.

I just need to find the inspiration (and the money for supplies) to sit down and DO it. Thanks for sharing this, it's beautiful, and gives me at least a couple ideas for mine.
