Description Soft doll I made of Terrence from Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends. The face and ears were designed in Embird and stitched on a Janome 350 embroidery machine. I made the body from this base: [link] (but made many changes, as that is a jointed doll). The hair is fun fur. I designed him to wear 18" doll clothes. I made the red shirt from a doll clothes pattern but the rest of his visible clothes were purchased. (I say visible because under his jeans are some "I -heart- FB" boxers I made, also using the embroidery machine for the design.)

This is actually the third complete doll (minus the outfit) I made; I had to keep starting over because I wasn't happy first with the fabric, then with the color. Its too bad because the first doll had a better head. Oh well.

Will you post it here? Can you unblock me from your profiles so I can comment on it and your other art? I wish you would, you never gave me a chance to tell you how good your art is before you got mad at me...

It's a good pattern, but if you're wanting to make a doll to fit 18" doll clothes like I did you have to reduce the pattern pieces to 80%. For a rag doll style doll like this instead of jointed, cut the torso off flat at the hips. I also did not use the head front piece given as that results in an actual nose - I tried Terrence like that, omitting the little triangle for his nose and making his face three-dimensional but it looked weird so I changed the face to flat. Oh and added ears. I made the head about 110% actually to make him more cartoony. You can't see the feet here but they're pretty good. I redid the hands though, the original ones looked odd.

I may try a Frankie some time, if I can figure out how to do her hair.

Yarn hair is a pain. Try doing an online search for tips maybe. I'm sure there are other people out there who have posted good info.

I think for Frankie, you could just make a "skullcap" of the same fabric the doll is made of, then sew rows of yarn on with straight stitches, maybe three times (one down the middle and one on either side). Once it's pulled back in a ponytail you wouldn't see the stitching, and then sew the cap onto the doll. I asked Lauren how she does yarn hair and it was something like that I think, although maybe without the cap, just directly onto the doll. I think I'd rather use the cap.

If there was ever proof of how much you love Terrence, this is it. You've pretty much nailed him from the crazy hair to his crazy-toothed grin. Great job.

Lol thanks. It certainly took me long enough to do this, but if I had done it before I wouldn't have had the embroidery machine. I was actually thinking back then of doing him like an old-fashioned rag doll, with button eyes and no mouth, and yarn hair.

Creepy or not, he's still adorable! You captured his look perfectly, Sparky, and what's more, I'd bet that this is the only Terrence doll out there, anywhere.
