Description
No, they aren't uncomfortable. They were more comfortable than many of my heels, to be honest.Yes, they are heavy.
But the added weight helped keep me upright.
I was able to walk around all night, up and down stairs, as well as dance, with no trouble.
Materials Used
Old platform boots with the heels removed, and a wooden platform attached to the bottoms for added height.
Wire mesh (window screen, to be exact)
Paper mache
Bondo
Ardex Feather Finish Cement
Acrylic paint
Polyurethane
Craft foam sheets & faux leather (hot glued on) for the "armor"
*edit* I was just popping on before bed and saw a DD?? Holy cow, thank you so much :0 *dies of joy*

I was going to ask how comfortable they were when I saw this. I've been looking for something like this! Great job!
Hey, a quick question: did you ever try jumping around or anything in them? If they worked, I could see acting as Pan of the Woods :]

Well...they're heavy, and I'd be afraid of them chipping if I jumped around too much. Maybe if you used something other than the Feather Finish.

walk, dance, and carry on in a drunken fashion.
Standing still for extended periods was actually a bit tiring.

oh yes i've seen those later. they look epix xD
so you could completely normally walk in those? you said somewhere else you dont put your weight on the heel in very high heels anyway, does taht mean you basically walk just on your toes for a whole day? O_o

Yeah, it's not hard...Lots of women do it every day! The only difference with these is the added weight. That was weird at first, but I got used to it pretty quickly.

'd because it is an awesome tutorial. I may have to try it out someday when I have a need (or sudden urge) to walk around in hooves.
Well done and congrats on the DD.

How do you walk in them?
I can't figure out how it wouldn't fall back...

nekokelly In reply to Uzumaki-Rukia [2009-12-18 02:22:59 +0000 UTC]
When wearing stiletto heels, you walk on your toes. The heels are too thin to put any weight on them, if you do, they'll break. So anyone familiar with high heels would be able to maneuver easily in these, it's completely the same principle.

If you don't wear stupidly high, skinny heels much, there's no reason to feel stupid xD It's not exactly a natural way to walk!

Meh, it's not the pentagram anyone has to worry about, it's the upside down pentagram..
I totally agree, though; it is very kewl! One time for Halloween, I thought of going as a four-legged horse (by myself, not as one person in the front, one in the back) but the only thing I could think of for hooves in the front would be Romper Stompers (li'l plastic cup-like things that you stood on and had long plastic cord "reins" to hang on to...they were great when one was like, less than 100 pounds and a kid!). This would work better, but I'm too old to clomp around on all fours, so I'd have to go Anthro and use these just on my back feet.
BTW, do you have a full-size picture, Neko? Would love to see the whole regalia!

See? You understand.
Hah. I'm a failure at arts and crafts, so... I doubt I shall use this ever. But I've never heard of Romper Stompers.
Ooh! I second that!

Good lord, can't believe it's taken this long to reply, but the last few months have been...interesting.
I think Romper Stompers were from the educational show "Romper Room" that a teacher had done eons ago; I remember it when I was a wee thing, so it's probably waaaaay before your time, but among other things she did, she had a "magic mirror" (a handled mirror frame without any glass) she would hold before her face at the end of each episode and point out, "I see, with the Magic Mirror ... Janie, and Mikey, and ________ ..." (whoever else she'd had on the show as guests, or maybe kids who'd written her letters, or whatever)
It was in the era of live-action, studio-filmed kids' shows, like "Capt. Kangaroo" and folks like that. Possibly one of the last gasps...
And just judging by your work, I don't think you're a failure at all! Hey, at least they work, and you made 'em look good and functional!
