Description This is my amazing Midna Costume! I won Best of Saturday at Otakon 2010! This was my first really big win. I worked on this costume off and on for 3 years. I made three different versions of the bodysuit before I was even remotely satisfied. I'm wearing a home-made fat suit under the bodysuit to give me those big Midna hips, so sorry, my butt is not real! I painted resist onto a white cotton lycra blend, and then painted a thickened dye onto it. The runes are a glow-in-the-dark silkscreen paint with pearlized pigments to give a shimmer. The helm is made of a foam that is similar to a stiffer upholstery foam. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what it is exactly, as i bought it off a guy on craigslist XD. The wig is a hand dyed yellow Femme Fatal wig from Amphegory with a giant mass of extension on top of a form made from quiting batting. The helm is only 4lbs, so it's not too bad. It's also very well balanced with the hair and horns being opposite. All the runes are actually carved into the foam. It's coated with several layers of stone spray paint. I've glued a white and a black piece of leather to my soles, and I'm wearing a red scalar lens in my exposed eye.

Before I left Utah, I knew I had to do a photoshoot at the Castle behind the mental hospital! So a few weeks before I left, I got my friends Elrowiel and The Lorax and we went and took pictures for a few hours.

Location: Provo Ut, Castle

This is Some Fine-Looking Cosplay! I'd Say You Have The Ability To Challenge That OTHER Midna Cosplayer...You Know The One Who Yawns...She's Usually The First Person To Pop Up When You Search Up "Midna Cosplay" The Point Is, This Looks Great!

Also, Nice Job With The Whole "Padding Thing" It Could Probably Work To Your Advantage, Not Just So Your Hips are Widder and Your Bum Looks Bigger, But It Looks Cold Outside Where You Are!

Overall Amazing Work!

Even if they are fake, ya definitely rocked them hips naturally.
Congrats on the perfectly implied love handles~

AHA!!! I found you again!! I knew there was an amazing Midna cosplayer who made a padded fatsuit but I couldn't find who it was! How did you make your fatsuit? I'm dying to know cause I want to attempt one myself.

Basically, I made a thin bodysuit that came up to my lower bra line, and sewed it into a sports bra (to flatten me out a bit, midna has the tiny boobs). The legs I had end in stirrups, to keep the lower half down. I then made my "fat" out of thick quilting batting, doing 2 layers where needed. I glued the layers together, I think, and shaped it with scissors. I then carefully hand sewed it to the thin bodysuit. It's probably not the best thing ever, but it worked!

Beautiful Midna!!!

I'm planning on doing a Midna as well. Did the paint stay on well on the body suit? Which product/brand did you use? Pretty please^^

NekoNariko In reply to AnnaDerviya [2013-03-11 18:47:45 +0000 UTC]

The body suit is actually dyed. I made it from a cotton-spandex blend so that it would take the Procrion dye well. I then used a washable resist to block out the white areas. I mixed the dye into a sort of "paint" using alginate to thicken it. The runes are painted on. The paint is a glow-in-the-dark silkscreen paint, with added Pearl-Ex pigments to give it the color I wanted.

Most of my materials can be purchased from Dharma Trading Company, online. Your local art supply store (not Joanns or Michaels) might have a lot of the supplies as well.

I know other people have painted their suits in the past, but I was worried about flaking, so I went with dying. It is a much more involved processes than painting, though.

Thank you so much! I hadn't thought of dying the suit It seems a bit safer than just painting it. I'll definitely try that one out!

Those companies probably wont exist in Belgium, but my local art store will have the materials probably.

Now I feel a lot safer on trying Midna out. Thanks again^^

Awww you make a great Midna cosplayer. to bad you couldn't come to bowling green ohio for the Animarathon! It's an anime/video game con! I go as Super Mario every year because apparently I'm their favorite Mario lol.

NekoNariko In reply to NintendoVeteran85 [2011-08-29 04:15:40 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, Ohio is a bit far away. I went there once for a con, but only to drag my good friends who'd never been, and won't go again. They had fun, but they made it pretty clear it was a one time thing .

Nice photo of a very nice cosplay. Love the hip padding and helmet, but your spot-on wig is by far the best part.

NekoNariko In reply to Katsumiyo [2011-07-14 09:36:28 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! So few people even attempt to do the wig correctly! It's also hard to see the awesomeness from the front.

Katsumiyo In reply to NekoNariko [2011-07-14 09:37:37 +0000 UTC]

I can't fault them much for that; it's quite a daunting task. While yours is particularly nice, I'm happy seeing Midna cosplayers at all, being able to see that someone shares the same love for the game that I do.

NekoNariko In reply to Katsumiyo [2011-07-14 09:40:12 +0000 UTC]

Oh, Midna is a very difficult cosplay to do. I had to learn *so* many things in order to get her done right. It's always nice to see people cosplay characters you care about

sunnydelight18 [2011-07-13 02:55:19 +0000 UTC]

This is quite possibly- wait, fix that..

This is most definitely the best Midna cosplay I've ever seen! Ususally people try her in her imp form and slaughter it... I think this is the best you can get with that form

I went CRAZY looking for a picture of her back to use as reference for a commission I'm doing. I ended up finding a walkthrough and going to that spot where she almost-not quite hugs Wolf Link.

Oh, do you not have the 3d game models? Someone posted them on internet a while back. I think they are on most repository sites these days. They can be opened in most 3d programs, including Blender, an open source 3d program. There is *no* way that I could have done this cosplay without them.

I had to make some alterations to the files in order for her runes to show up on the model, if you have issue/need help, please don't hesitate to contact me!
