Description With the conversion of Naruto Tensei into black and white color pages (from chapters 7 onwards) Nekoni now allows any of the content of the black and white chapters (chapters 7 and onwards, of Naruto Tensei, until further notice) to be colored by any willing third party and redistributed online, so long as those colors and reposts obey the conditions listed below:

Condition 1: Credit
Credit to the lineartist/inker (in this case, the artist Nekoni) MUST be given. The contrary is not permitted. This credit must be provided in at least one of the following forms:
-a clear, readable watermark applied to the image reading either 'Nekoni' 'www.nekoni.co.uk' 'nekoni.deviantart.com' or 'lineart and story by nekoni'
-a hyperlink to the original source material (the page the coloring is taken from) or to a place where that page is easily accessed; such as to www.nekoni.co.uk, nekoni.deviantart.com, or one the Naruto Tensei galleries available at each of these locations.

Under no circumstances may credit be misplaced. If credit is misplaced you have not met the conditions and your work will be considered art-theft.

Condition 2: Editing
For colorists the only permitted edits to the original work are as follows:
-Color application
-Image cropping
-Minor linework repair or preparation
-Identical text reapplication (changing the dialogue is not permitted)

Condition 3: Coloring
Coloring is permitted under the very specific conditions in that it must cover at least the entirety of all the characters on a page (of cropped segment of an image) and is shaded and color coordinated. This means that tinting the page, filling it with one color, or coloring a tiny fraction of the page do not count as coloring work; visa-vi they would not display enough imput by the colorist for Nekoni to acknowledge any contribution and would not be permitted to claim as such.

Condition 4: Redistributing Online
So long as the colorist has met all of the above conditions, they have provided the proper credit, integrity and artistic contribution for Nekoni to permit the reposting of the finished image to be reposted online in any location, so long as it is non-deformative and non-misleading, and given it meets the rules required for that location, and also given that no profit has been or will be aquired for the coloring or distribution of aforementioned image.

Condition 5: Linking to permission
It is advised that anyone participating in coloring return a link to the original artwork from which they have worked and optionaly to this location in order to display that they have complied with with the conditions and have permission. Providing one or both of these links greatly reduces the likelihood of being mistaken for committing plagiarism.

------------------

Okay guys! Legal speak is over! So did you pay attention? You have to give credit, not mess the work up, put some effort in it and make sure you don't look like an art thief- because I am giving you actual -permission- to color my stuff and repost it online. I know a lot of you would like to be able to pick a picture from a manga and color it, but aren't allowed, so this'll provide a healthy alternative- as -long- as you obey those conditions. I posted this here on dA (with one of the chapter covers) so you have easy access to it. I will actually answer any questions you have over this, but it should be pretty simple to understand what I'll let you do. Seriously, have fun!

FAQ:
Q: Can I have a page as just the lineart?
A: Giving out just the lineart would put it out of context and make it easier for art-thieves to take the work, so I'm sorry. If you want to delete the black areas, it's quite easy to do with the select or paintbrush tools before you start coloring.

The pages looked pretty with color but it's kinda better this way because it looks like it's actually part of the manga And less coloring means faster pages!

I'd like to do this. It would be much easier if you could provide just the line-art (so without the white background) though.

It's CC Wild Words... from a Comicbook collection; you prooooobably don't have it unless you collect fornts.

Hehe ^^ I might just be up to doing this for you. I've gotten pretty fast at nice, anime coloring as of late, so I should be able to do some pages in color, if not all of them. I submitted myself for consideration back when you were trying to choose a colorist, but I was never replied to But with this, I can help you out when I can without the pressure of having to color EVERY page XD Though I would like to try to do that, if only as a way of saying thanks for the awesome doujin ^_^

Only one question though: Coloring will be a bit hard for anyone to do when the black and white pages are fully inked and toned as they are. I can edit it to get rid of the black fills, and to some extent the tones, but it takes a lot longer.

So the question is, will you be providing line art links for those that want to color any given page? Or must we just deal with the black and white, fully-inked versions?

nekoni In reply to FoxxBrush [2010-02-26 17:51:44 +0000 UTC]

I'll only be providing the fully inked pages, so anyone who wants to use them will have to make do with coloring them in context, and it stops any real art thieves from using the uninked pages as evidence of creation.

Feel free to color, but it's not really for me, I'll just be posting my black and white white. I just figure that when I post things in black and white, it makes an coherant base for someone else to play with it if they want to =3

Ah, that's a good point ^^ It sucks that we have to protect our art like that >.< Stupid thieves.

Alright, well, without a line art it'll be a lot harder to give the coloring a good rendition, but I guess I could either just leave the black as is or carefully use the line art as a color layer

In any case, I'm glad Tensei is finally back, color or not ^_^ I look forward to reading it, and hopefully I'll be able to contribute a little something as well.

Thanks for the quick response

If you paint over or delete the black zones before you (persumably) mask the image, they're pretty easy to get rid of

FoxxBrush In reply to nekoni [2010-02-26 18:10:25 +0000 UTC]

Heh, that's true ^^ I don't use masks much, but I've been learning about them recently XP So we'll see

I'm actually working on coloring the latest page you just posted just now, just to sort of test the waters on how long it will normally take me ^_^ So it should be done soon :3
