"Interesting" is usually a totally devastating comment

lol and why.

NekoToTora In reply to Danjella97 [2012-09-11 12:23:14 +0000 UTC]

Because it´s not good and not bad. "Interesting" is something one says, when one doesn´t have anything to say or if one doesn´t want to say anything ^^

There´s a very thin line to tread between sexy jokes and sexist jokes. I try to avoid sexist stuff, because I really appreciate my 40% female readers ^^

todd-fox In reply to NekoToTora [2012-09-09 17:39:35 +0000 UTC]

Sexist? Its a pun more on cats...and smells.

Bit of a stretch and in my opinion in the same stretch as the cut your wener off joke.

Hey, you are the native speaker. I am only the stupid german doing his best to learn a foreign language. So anything you say

But I prefer cracking sexist jokes about men, because I have a far better judgement concearning how offensive they are. And although there might be just as many women cracking sexist jokes about men, than there are men cracking sexist jokes about women, at least women have the decency to crack those jokes behind men´s backs - at least most of the time

I find it more respectable when things are up front personaly.

And your doing rather well by the way language wise...

NekoToTora In reply to todd-fox [2012-09-11 01:04:51 +0000 UTC]

Thank you - you are very kind ^^

If women are cracking jokes behind the backs of men, then because they are afraid of even more social oppression, then they are experiencing already. As long as women have to compete in a patriarchic society against men who consider them to be second class, paying them less, even if they are doing the same job as a male, they will always prefer to talk behind the back of men - and right they are!
As soon, as women are finally treated equal to men, they will be up front in no time, don´t worry ^^

todd-fox In reply to NekoToTora [2012-09-11 11:15:00 +0000 UTC]

True but then again women also have a social advantage over men with certain higher expectations for instance door opening may be a bit of a flimsy example but say you open the door for a women now most would be okay with that but you may get that one who thinks your being sexist yet if you dont your being impolite and in the argument the fact that they are female will be used first before the fact that it's generaly nice to open a door for someone behind you if you are waiting near it.

So sometimes you ask yourself in socail situations would you like me to treat like an equal or a women which one would you find least insulting?

So in short guy walks up to women nothing expected. Women walks up to guy best behaviour expected.

NekoToTora In reply to todd-fox [2012-09-11 12:36:54 +0000 UTC]

Oh - that depends heavily on your social surroundings. If you are in some ghetto, you certainly will offend the ladies, when opening the doors for them, I suppose. But I have NEVER EVER experienced any woman who would NOT have liked the fact that I have opened the door or carried something heavy. For example: I always open the car door for my wife, before I get in myself. Of course we get looks all the time on public parkinglots: derogatory looks from guys and jealouls looks from the ladies. Treating a woman with respectful politeness and treating her equally at the same time is not opposing behavior. Behing polite doesn´t imply, that you are reducing a woman to some sort of sex-toy. It means, you have some style and some education. You make a difference. Other people have to Also what about guys? If I am sitting and I am approached by a male, I stand up for a handshake. It´s polite. That doesn´t mean, I reduce HIM to a sex-toy, does it?

True but on a separate note you also have to account for the letter of law in matters like divorce or childcare the law is bias towards the female perhaps for true equality it should be done on analysis of circumstance without a male or female bias.

Also when it comes to crime people are more shocked by a female pedophile than a male one.

Healthcare is pretty much free in Germany, isn't it? It's certainly one of the best places for it I hear.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

NekoToTora In reply to MoonlitCrescent [2012-09-11 01:11:38 +0000 UTC]

No, it´s not free. But health insurance is mandatory. An employer has to pay health-insurance even for his interns or the cleaning personel. And as soon as you are earning money, you HAVE to pay health insurance (you pay 50/50 with your employer). You can choose general health insurances or private insurance (if you are self employed or your income as an employee is above $3000,- per month). Private gets you better service, but when you become older, it becomes extremely expensive. If you are a student, you are insured via your parents with a family insurance. With married couples, only one of the two has to pay the insurance - family insurance again. If you are unemployed, the government pays your insurance, but you cannot go private anymore. We owe it all to Reichs-chancelor Otto von Bismarck

Don´t get me started

For introducing social legislation he still is some sort of hero. Germany´s social legislation at the end of the nineteenth century was exemplary and was used as a template by many other nations.

Yay! Finally something historical, Germany can be proud of!

NekoToTora In reply to MoonlitCrescent [2012-09-24 00:01:59 +0000 UTC]

Definitely good. Bismarck realised, that a worker WANTS to work and that a worker works much better, when she/he is healthy. Sure, now it was possible, that a worker would stay at home sick for a week, not being able to work - but the worker would come back. Rather then working, until death with lots of nowledge and expertise lost for ever. Also workers started to identify with their jobs and started to like work, knowing that they are in a system of security, even when becoming unemployed. Still works today. I trained long-term-unemployed people for the german chamber of commerce and I cannot confirm the arguments of many german politicians, that a good social security system would invite people to stay unimployed, living off charity, rather then looking for a new job. In my four years as a trainer I have trained about 300 people in courses and I know of only two cases, where the trainees were only doing the course, so that social security would continue paying for them. The rest was happy to get back into an employment-situation. So, yes - I think people can be thankful. Social security laws are very beneficial for those who want to work. I am not afraid of medical bills. If I must, I can call an ambulance anytime and I know, I am taken care of. But you have the british system, haven´t you? That´s pretty similar - with the difference, that you have health care centers for everyone and specialists for private patients, right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MoonlitCrescent In reply to NekoToTora [2012-09-27 17:14:15 +0000 UTC]

All hail the system, sounds bloody good to me. Effective and worth it.

As I personally would have expected, people DO want to work and make some sort of impact or legacy. I've always thought that. I don't understand why people think that a good system would automatically generate a lot of 'bludgers'. There's always a few as you've seen, but .. no, just no. That's why the American system is so horribly bad.

Ha, if you were a politician I'd vote for you

As it should be - if you need medical help you shouldn't have to worry about money to get it.

I'm not sure how the 'British' system works, but it sounds similar. We have a 'public' system paid for by the government that anyone can use essentially for free. However it has numerous issues related to wait times, proper funding, overcrowding, and so on. Then you can actively pay more to be in 'private' care where you tend to be treated quicker and/or faster and is why many people do this. But major operations and such can be reasonably costly. But yes, we have specialists who obviously specialise in certain areas that you can be referred to by an average doctor or 'G.P.' as needed. Many specialists are not completely covered (if at all) by the public system.

Actually, I am bilingual in Spanish and English, plus I'm trying to learn Japanese to boot. Here in Texas, both Spanish and English are used equally, so it's important to know both languages. You're just as likely to see a sign in a store's window that reads abierto as open.
Once again. I do have to point out that I did call her Ms. Kyoko. To Americans, Miss is considered sexist. (I know that isn't the case in most other languages - in Spanish, they still use señora and señorita.)
My two OC Hispanic catgirls, Gatina and Luz Moreno, are definitely not impressed by their creator. I think if I met them in person, they'd claw the crap out of me.
Sorry to hear that your markers got fried. Hopefully you can get through the week without any troubles. For me, the nearest art supply store is about 12 miles away (19 km.) Then again, there's only one store in Dallas. They're only open about 5 hours a day too.
Well, we do have plenty of roadkill here in Texas, although it's usually found in the rural areas more than the city.

Kyoko covered that "Miss"-topic in the german version of Letters 15. "Miss" (Fräulein) is considered impolite in Germany, too - where in France and Belgium, "Mademoiselle" is a compliment.

I am glad, Letters 30 is such a hit ^^

Anyway, I've also studied body language as well. Kyoko looks utterly psychotic in the 13th panel. I've been trying to apply this to my works in posing my characters.
