Description Don't get me wrong. I love animals. I want them to be treated in a non abusive way. I don't like seeing videos of pigs drowning in their own blood for more than three minutes. I hate that so many animals have to be put to sleep because there's no space for them or because they're too aggressive. I'm an animal lover. And I genuinely agree with the statement Ingrid Newkirk said, sometimes the kindest thing to do in a situation with an animal is to put it to sleep.

But the problem is, you can't have it both ways. You can't be the leader of PETA, crying out that animals are being used as slaves, that they deserve complete freedom, and even financially supporting an arsonist that burns down animal research buildings demanding animal research to be put to an end when even your senior vice president depends on insulin injections to live.

There's just so much that could be said about PETA - and not only them, the Animal Liberation Front as well.

I'm not an uncaring person, I'm not unkind, I don't hate animals and I definitely don't want to see them hurt. But when the biggest groups of people advocating the safety of animals condone terrorism and fear mongering, there's something wrong.

Additionally, watch Penn & Teller's Bullshit!. Season 2 has an interesting episode focused entirely on PETA. It'll give you something to think about.

PETA is overrated. Sometimes, yes. A really sick or old animal should be put down. I completely agree with that. There are few times when I agree with PETA.
If a dog is too aggressive and continued to fail the tests, and if they tried working with it but they couldn't, then that's one reason as well. They might end up euthanizing it. Why? The poor thing might have something wrong. That not the case? Then it will never find a home unless it finds someone really willing to work really hard to help it.
And the whole "Wearing furs is animal abuse!" thing, THEY RAISE THOSE ANIMALS FOR THAT REASON. Fox hunting, that sorta stuff, ISN'T A THING ANYMORE. They raise them for that reason. Animals are a renewable resource. I'm not supporting animal abuse or anything of the sort, I'm just saying those people who freak out over eating meat are complete idiots.
Sorry for the long comment. I'd add more but I'm not sure how much more my poor fingers can take at 1:04 in the morning--

In some cases (as with a dog that has Parvo who's gone too long without proper medical care) putting the animal to sleep has to be done in order to end it's suffering. I'm not a member of PETA but I thought I'd add that.

Some animals?! PETA kills most of their animals to the point that they`ve been labeled a slaughterhouse since the number of animals they kill doesn`tΒ decrease.www.petakillsanimals.com/

Er, I think Ingrid may be right in saying this, at least in principle. In practice, though, PETA is far too quick to resort to euthanization.

I'd say that's the major reason why people are opposed to PETA in this sense. That, and the total hypocrisy of them. #PeTAKills has heaps of information available on this topic.

PETA kills 92% of the animals they rescue. In 2011, 3067 healthy animals were killed by PETA, while 12 were given homes.

Did you hear about Newkirk's will? It's gross.
A part of it states she wants her feet to be used as umbrella holders or something along those lines.

PETA is nothing but a group of hypocrites, murderers, and terrorists. Ingrid Newkirk herself is even a radical animal liberation activist as well. She’s been arrested more than 20 times, and she’s an avowed supporter of the FBI-certified domestic terrorist group Animal Liberation Front (ALF) (source: [link] )

They don't even have any open shelter hours at their Norfolk, VA headquarters. And much less than 1% of their yearly budget goes towards animals. The rest goes towards a contract with a crematorium as to rid their large walk-in freezer of hundreds of animal bodies, supporting the legal defense efforts of ALF criminals, and all their failed Super Bowl ads.

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) requires all animal shelters to report the number of cats and dogs they take in each year. The records indicate how many cats and dogs were reclaimed by their owners, adopted out, transferred to other Virginia releasing agencies (i.e. animal shelters and animal control), transferred to out-of-state releasing agencies, died of natural causes, euthanized (killed), and how many the shelter held alive at the end of the calendar year. These are the stats of 2010 alone:

-2,345 recieved

-63 transferred

-44 adopted 1.86%

-2,200 killed

Out of over 2,300 animals that were recieved by the shelter in just that year alone, only 1.86% got adopted while a whopping 93.8% of all the animals were killed.

I love animals but Peta takes it to a whole new level.

I am surprised that they have been allowed to get away with the stuff they do. They are violating the 1st amendment

not to mention PETA attacked Super Mario about his racoon suit claiming he supported wearing furs. They attack a fictional character, who, for the entire time that he has been in existence, has never been a political figure in any way shape or form. That's just sad. and then they claim it was just a joke

I heard about that. Mario doesn't do anything bad to an animal to get his tanooki suit, but PETA claimed tht it "promotes wearing fur."

They even made this sick (in a bad way) little side-scrolling game clled "Super Tanooki Skin 2D" where you're a skinned tanooki chasing Mario, who's wearing your still bleeding skin and flying away.

Derp, it wasn't the SNES, it was the regular NES. And he obtained the Tanooki suit through the "super leaf" item.

canineEnthusiast In reply to TheChaosDragoness [2011-12-26 21:46:18 +0000 UTC]

yup. and he found it by hitting blocks, not stomping on animals. now you can get it sometimes through foes with the racoons tail by stomping on them, but there are no raccoon-type foes
