Description "Sexuality is a choice? Okay... So when did you decide to be straight?"

Most scientists today agree that sexual orientation is the result of a combination of biological, hormonal, emotional, and environmental factors - meaning that there are many factors that contribute to a person's sexual orientation. Most agree that sexual orientation is not a choice, and it cannot be changed.

Still, some people claim that sexuality is a choice, and that homosexuals and bisexuals are simply choosing to sexually deviate from the 'norm' of heterosexuality.

Why would people choose to be homosexual if they knew that their parents and family would disown them if they knew? This point by ~MinZki !
If sexuality is a choice, then when did you choose to become straight?
If sexuality is a choice, why don't you choose to be gay? If it's so simple to change what sex you are sexually attracted to, flip the switch for a day and choose not to be attracted to members of the opposite sex. Only become aroused by members of the same sex. Seriously, do it! I'd like to know how that works out for you.

Point is, sexuality is not a choice, no more than our skin color is a choice, or our natural hair color. It's just a part of who we are, and people who claim they can change are just fooling themselves. That's all I've got to say for now on this topic.

1) The point still stands. When did you choose to be straight?

2) Who says it's perversion? And don't give me a religious argument because it won't change anything considering I'm an atheist, so if you use a holy book for reasoning it won't change my view.

3) Actually, even "obsessed heteros" may not even have chosen to be "obsessed", considering high libido is a thing. And in all honesty, the "obsessed" heteros don't seem like a big problem as long as they're using protection and being safe, I don't see why they can't have sex.

I understand, but when we are first born we have this instinct to follow gender rules.
We later start to realize that, that isn't the way we work.
Some kids don't even like anyone when they are in grade school and start to realize their sexuality later on.
So not all of us are born straight.. i mean sure when you are a child you have this feeling you have to like someone from the opposite sex but that doesn't mean the child doesn't feel right with it.

So, maybe I can answere some of that questions, I actually chose to be Bi (because everyone thought I was a lesbian and I was like, Fuck it, I'll be bi so they shut up).
1) My parents are tolerant. They know since I was 15 yrs. that I'm bi.
Couldn't it be something like with the satanists? Satanism was founded as a giant "Fuck you!" to christianity. Maybe homosexuality is a giant "Fuck you" to christianity (and other religions) as well?
2) Straight is the default. Humanity needs a majority of straights to be kept alive. Without straight couples none of us would be here.
3) It took me a few years to have a attraction to women. And even now i'm not that keen on other women's bajingo's. I'm more into brest's and other physical atributes, but leave me alone with bajingos.
As you said yourself: "sexual orientation is the result of a combination of biological, hormonal, emotional, and environmental factors - meaning that there are many factors that contribute to a person's sexual orientation." It isn't so easy as switching a switch.

Well, from basic biology we are all straight but there are chemicals that turn people gay.
In The Quarterly Review of Biology, researchers at UC Santa Barbara and Uppsala University in Sweden have concluded through their research that sexual orientation can be decided through epi-marks, which are temporary switches in a fetus’ DNA that exist while in the womb and shortly after birth….“Genes are basically the instruction book, while epi-marks direct how those instructions get carried out. For example, they can determine when, where, and how much of a gene gets expressed.”
As a press release explains in almost comprehensible terms, the study finds: “sex-specific epi-marks, which normally do not pass between generations and are thus ‘erased,’ can lead to homosexuality when they escape erasure and are transmitted from father to daughter or mother to son.”

Sexuality isn't something you choose, is something you discover. You might discover that you are attracted to the opposite sex, your same sex, to both, etc.

Just as you can't force yourself to like something that you're "meh" about. You can't influence how your sexuality develops, you just flow with it.

SonicBoom-zers In reply to Naty-Pie12-12 [2016-07-21 03:56:52 +0000 UTC]

When I stated, can/cannot,

I meant you can choose what you are attracted too.

IMPRINTING CAN influence you,

like if you were born in a gay/straight home.

You'd most likely be that sexuality. HOWEVER, you can develop other preferences of your sexity, or veer from it.

Yep and I was in as straight atmosphere, but taught to love gays as humans too.

I had a phase when I wonder what was yuri since it was a thing for le research in woman jails. I didn't keep it though. I still felt entitled to be straight. I'd  never explore it for REAL, but research it and stuff. I was curious. Still, I'd look and feel awkward about women in bathing suits. etc. I would never envision myself to be a lesb. Doesn't mean others can't be one.

Even if I am Christian, it doesn't mean I'd try to burn you or say "go to hell."

WTF? We aren't prefect, and not everyone will follow our belief. Or, our relationship.

Sorry, but 'my god in the sky' told me to LOVE. Not judge

I believe gay CAN be a choice. I choose to sleep with women despite never wanting to hold a romantic relationship with one.

However, in general, it is NOT a choice and people need to stop that > <

SpooKaiScarySkeleton In reply to PuppyloveImani [2016-06-15 01:21:46 +0000 UTC]

Sleeping with someone doesn't mean you're in love with them though. Examples are, say, someone is questioning their sexuality, and they have sex with the same sex, but feel like they didn't enjoy it, they're not attracted, etc. That would mean they're straight. If you discover you're gay half way through your life, then you're gay, not choosing to become gay.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PuppyloveImani In reply to SpooKaiScarySkeleton [2016-06-21 00:11:02 +0000 UTC]

That may be true, however sex is important despite everyone saying its not. Sexuality is both in romance and sexual desire and you dont have to have both to determine which sexuality you are a part of.

And sex has just as much say in your sexuality as whom you fall in love with.

But then I suppose the correct term for someone of one sexuality that is able to have sex with the same gender is 'bisexual'

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SpooKaiScarySkeleton In reply to PuppyloveImani [2016-06-21 16:07:39 +0000 UTC]

If that were true, all the girls and guys testing out their sexuality with their same gender and deciding they're straight are bisexual, which isn't true...
So if someone is biromantic and heterosexual, they're actually bisexual?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PuppyloveImani In reply to SpooKaiScarySkeleton [2016-06-21 20:44:46 +0000 UTC]

Theres a difference between testing something and choosing to do it continuously.

OK now youre off into those side sexualities and I dont bother with that much xD I just say t=you are whatever you want to be. No one else should care what you do in your romantic or sex life anyway.

Some might some might not.  And anyway, you are acting like we have been talking for weeks and you are getting fed up when you are the one who replied to me. I am not changing my mind about this. Yes some of what 8mananderz8 is true, most of it actually. But still i don't think you are ALWAYS born to be your sexuality completely.
