So when did you decide to be straight?"Most scientists today agree that sexual orientation is the result of a combination of biological, hormonal, emotional, and environmental factors - meaning that there are many factors that contribute to a person's sexual orientation. Most agree that sexual orientation is not a choice, and it cannot be changed.
Still, some people claim that sexuality is a choice, and that homosexuals and bisexuals are simply choosing to sexually deviate from the 'norm' of heterosexuality.
Why would people choose to be homosexual if they knew that their parents and family would disown them if they knew? This point by ~MinZki !
If sexuality is a choice, then when did you choose to become straight? If sexuality is a choice, why don't you choose to be gay? If it's so simple to change what sex you are sexually attracted to, flip the switch for a day and choose not to be attracted to members of the opposite sex. Only become aroused by members of the same sex. Seriously, do it! I'd like to know how that works out for you.Point is, sexuality is not a choice, no more than our skin color is a choice, or our natural hair color. It's just a part of who we are, and people who claim they can change are just fooling themselves. That's all I've got to say for now on this topic.

This is old, but I just want to put forward a possibility. What if the "others" who do have a choice are just bisexual or pansexual and simply choose which attraction to ignore or pay attention to at any given time? I feel as if many people who claim to be able to choose whether they are gay or straight are simple bi or pan and don't realize it.Β

Oh, it's you....I am feeling a little tired, so I hope we can keep this discussion simple and straight to the point.
You are probably wondering why I believe what I said in the original post....well because I was taught, by none other than my father, that everything that happens in life is ones own fault. And the only thing that can break such a rule would be people interfering in one's life.
Think of it this way, life is a driving car, if you don't steer that car, it's gonna take you where ever. You have the choice to steer the car, but one thing you should never do is allow the passenger to grab the wheel. A Sorta, life is what you make it.
Is it a really whack ass concept? Yes....
Why I choose to believe it? From a logical stand point, it would explain a lot of stuff in my life.
Can this be implied to sexuality, possibly not. Like you said, this is old, a lot of stuff before this year I might regret saying.... a lot of stuff that is hurtful....

I chose not to reply to this comment when you originally made it, because you seemed to be in an interesting state of mind at the time. I also didn't have much to say. In my opinion, your father's advice is sound, but you chose to apply it more broadly than would be reasonable, but I think that you already understand that. There are, obviously, aspects of a person's life that are out of their control. Aspects that we are born with, such as hair color, eye color, ethnicity, native language, etc. Sexuality is one of those things. We can choose to altar said aspects. I choose to dye my hair lighter, wear colored contacts, pass as Latina, and speak Spanish when I can, but that doesn't really change anything. My hair is still naturally black, my eyes are brown, I'm not Latina, and my native language is English. I did not choose those things and I cannot really choose Β to change them.

This is just my thought.
There are actually some people who used different sexualities as lables to make them "edgy" and "cool" so in a way there are still people who choose them. But again, there are also some real ones. (Like my two of my friends that I know)
In my opinion, physically humans have different gender for a reason. If one is to follow their instinct, they would of course, be "straight". It's like animals, we follow our instincts. There are some animals too that are different. Being gay is not wrong and it's not defying "instincts" Because well, the universe is.. "amazing"
I hope I don't offend anyone! I just want to give some ideas, so people could calm down about this. LGBT community is already having a hard time, and you can't fight hate with hate.

i'm pansexual myself, but i think it could be a choice. bc i could abstain from sex and deprave myself of sexual needs, and say i'm asexual. i chould choose to only like dicks and say i'm straight. i could also choose to only like vaginas and say i'm homo as hell. but i like both of them, and more, so i don't want to give that up. humans, imo, aren't born w/ sexualities. if you grew up in a different time period or society, you might think otherwise, tbh.

This is old, but some of what you said just doesn't make sense. Asexuality isn't "abstaining from sex and depraving [yourself] of sexual needs". Asexuals can and do have sex, but they lack sexual attraction.Β
