Description Inspired by this stamp today:

Hopefully this helps some people out there. This is how I learned it.

You're = Contraction (shortened version) of you are
Your = Belonging to you; of you; related to you

You're going to sell your car.
You're going to find your keys.
You're going to kick your cat.

None of these look like words anymore D:

For some reason before I saw the full title, I thought it was going to be, "You're gonna need a bigger comma."  To make the point to some, it seems true!!

I never had the problem "your or you're" (Although my English sucks xD) but I hate it when someone else doesn't know how to write it correctly.

As someone's signature somewhere (I forget) once said:

"Proper punctuation: the difference between knowing your shit and knowing you're shit."

Nekromanda In reply to Zorua076 [2013-07-03 23:26:55 +0000 UTC]

Haha, that's a good one. Another one went something like, "Proper punctuation: the difference between "Let's go eat, Grandma!" and "Let's go eat Grandma!"

My cat!

Nice stamp. It doesn't have that "Grammar Nazi" feel to it that a lot of people give off when they try to correct others.

It's one of those things that is hard to learn haha It took a while for me, too.

^^
btw, I hate when someone write something in a wrong way(like I'm doing writing "btw" XD) its's hard to understand

Nekromanda In reply to iedasb [2012-03-27 00:40:12 +0000 UTC]

It is pretty confusing sometimes, though I find that things like 'lol' and 'rofl' tend to just make it easier to get the point across than typing 'hahahaha.'

Sotkettu [2012-03-26 10:34:28 +0000 UTC]

In many web pages the people that write the most terrible English are usually people that speak English as the native language. It is weird. But I have heard that in the United States many schools don't teach much grammar and because of that many people from other countries write English with much better grammar than average person from United States.

Nekromanda In reply to Sotkettu [2012-03-26 14:06:41 +0000 UTC]

Lol, that would not surprise me. I think that a lot of it has to do with laziness - it's easy to fall into bad habits when you can speak the language without thinking about it.

RAWRItzKat [2012-03-26 07:06:47 +0000 UTC]

Sometimes I'll accidentally misuse them xD But I try my best to use the correct ones :3 I sometimes correct others' grammar too and I feel a little bit bad because I feel as though I'm being rude even though I don't intend to xD

Nekromanda In reply to RAWRItzKat [2012-03-26 07:09:43 +0000 UTC]

Lol, I know what you mean. I was a terrible grammar nazi once upon a time, then I realized I was irritating people, lol..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RAWRItzKat In reply to Nekromanda [2012-03-26 07:24:01 +0000 UTC]

LOL Yeah, that's why sometimes I TRY not to correct people's grammar but then sometimes I kind of have to or feel the need to xD

When I type "You're" I read out "You are" but I also sometimes get confused when I go to type "You're" I will accidentally type "Your", or even the other way around.
