actually not that new...I'm just here because writing fanfiction for practise (framework is all already there, can get down to fun stuff) seems pointless if I don't shre at least a bit with people...also have friends on here that I like to chat to...so yeah, don't really give a damn about points and stuff, I think I'll keep my money to buy dvds

Points are pretty much dA's online currency. You can convert actual money into points through a credit card, Paypal, or something similar. (I'm pretty sure you can't convert points into actual money, however.)
On dA, points are used to purchase dA merchandise, such as a premium membership (which gives you many benefits, which include no advertisements, the ability to further customize your user page, etc.), or even dA clothing. Many deviants here offer commissions for points.
I'm not sure what the main currency is of your country, but the conversion of points to US dollars is 80 points to a single US dollar. Hope it helps!
