Description
The Musician and his wife encourage Rayman to continue his journey in spite of the obstacles he encounters.
This is how I imagine the backyard of the Musician's house (the side of the house opposite to the one we see when Rayman meets him in the game.)

Ohhh the Musician is my favourite character in the Rayman series, despite being a fairly unpopular and irrelevant character (and having basically been retconned out of existence lol). It's so great to see art of him and his family!

That's awesome, he totally needs more fans! I also love to see more of him, can't play The Storm often enough just to see him and his wife jamming with Rayman (though I'd rather they retcon a character completely out of existence instead of giving them some sort of 'modern' redesign tbh)
Anyway it's a shame we never got to see the inside/garden of his house like we did with BΓ©tilla's and the Magician's houses. So I thought it's a nice job for a fan artist to come up with a possible design concept of the Musician's garden.

Yeah there's something very appealing about him, just a chill guitarist who lives in the mountains with his family.Β And I absolutely agree with what you say about how you'd rather he cease to exist then to be 'redesigned'. What they did with The Magician kinda bums me a lot, seeing as they changed his species completely to fit the 'Rayman is the only one of his kind' lore (Which they also half-scrapped by introducing a bunch of Rayman clones in Legends and Adventures?) and turning him into a villain. Now everyone sorta runs with the idea that The Magician was always a teensie who was secretly a villain. Personally, I reject the idea of them being the same character. I think the teensie needs to go to jail for identity theft lol.
Oh that would be really nice to see! Perhaps I'll give the inside of the house a go sometime, if I decide to study the design of other Rayman 1 era houses. I do very much like the design you gave The Musician's backyard!

I see. Tbh what they did to the Magician is one of the main reasons why it'd never occur to me to even lay a finger on the modern Rayman games. There's a tolerance margin for me when it comes to modifications in a new game, and this one far exceeds it. The only version I could have accepted is the one you describe (making them two different characters), but the way they handled this seems questionable to me on so many levels that all in all, I have no interest in these games whatsoever.
But tbh those developments hardly faze me since the classic Rayman games really offer enough to explore and to enjoy. There's so much depth and richness in the design of R1 and its spinoffs alone, and they've been created with so much love (even the screensavers⦠the Magician on his flying carpet is such a lovely idea!) After all these years I still find drawing inspiration by simply walking through these beautiful worlds. It's truly marvelous, and I don't think there's any other game that'll ever inspire me that much.
Β
Thank you very much, I'd be delighted to see your design of the Musician's house and I hope you'll like mine as well (I only have the ground floor so I would be super happy to see some additional ideas )

Oh yeah, I absolutely love the lore and environments added by the spin-offs! Even if they were intended simply as 'edutainment' spin-offs, they definitely had a lot of charm!

Absolutely! Over the years I've collected about 150+ screenshots, PDFs and other images of CP and Maternelle (Premiers Clics too, although the style seems to differ slightly from the other two, but I adore those sun-flooded, daisy-sprinkled meadows^^). The additional material really helped me get into the drawing style of the original game and I still use it for reference often.

Ahaha so have I! I have a dedicated set of folders on my laptop where I keep various visual assets from these games, mostly as references. Premiers Clics is an interesting and obscure one. It seems mostly based on Rayman 2 in terms of characters and style but the colouring book pages seem to have Rayman drawn in the style of the first game.

So happy there's someone who can relate to this Yes, and there are also those well-known tunes from R2 (like the Teensie music, the one from the Fairy Glade and the staff roll). Do you have the version with the shirt too btw? Looks lovely but it's waaay too small^^ I really, really love the old big box versions of these games, they are so beautifully crafted, the CDs are handsomely printed, and the manuals are gorgeous, too. This isn't like some downloadable game file in some virtual space. It's like you really have something to cherish, you know, in the real world.

I actually haven't played it myself, but that sounds really cool! The only physical Rayman media I have is the PC discs on Rayman 1 and Rayman 2, and I do love good CD art!

I see, well if you ever want/get the chance to play Premiers Clics I hope you can get it to run with full sound, I remember that one was a bit tricky. But it's definitely worth muddling through game files until it worked because it's no fun without the music and Rayman has a really nice voice actor.

Thanks a lot! As always, I hope it does justice to the beauty of the original game
