Description "... mama?"

A young orca calf curiously nuzzles an inflatable pool toy which looks strangely familiar to him.

---------------------------------------------

A first try at water webbing - and a first failure at water webbing. O_o Ah well, live and learn, as they say. This was quite the learning experience for myself on how water and light play on an object underwater. I have now come to despise my inflatable orca after spending hours just staring at it to figure out its transparency.

So cute! I have that inflatable orca for my pool, but it's black instead of transparent blue. You do VERY good work. Keep it up! ^-^

You're goin in the right direction with the water webbing, so that's all that matters to me : D.
It's a cute picture, this one, if not kinda sad(the fact that it's nuzzling this thing could mean about a-jillion different things; like he's lost or his mom's dead, or something, and is seeking the comfort of his mom--- or he could just be being cute >D ).
Anywho, the colors are nice and soft; I'm amazed at the way you've done the inflatable dolphin. I think it looks quite realistic : D.

Sorry, figured out what it was that was bothering me about the lines, and it wasn't the first half of my nitpicking. It's that the watery light lines appear stiff to me rather than fluid, so it looks like a pattern of branches more than water.

Sorry! Sorry! Eep.

Haha. That is so cute. And I love the way you did the transparency of the inflatable toy; it looks excellent and realistic, as does the shading and highlights. It looks like real, transparent plastic, which is a feat so few can pull off, and that is just amazing.

My only possible quibble is with the way the watery light is cast on the orca calf. Currently it looks like a grid of white with no water effects inbetween the lines; my perception is that there should transitions that are not so black and white, where the water is flowing and rising to a crest. Also, the lines don't account for the 3d shape of the orca's back, although it's lovely on the flippers. If the light is coming from above the water, I'd expect it to fade out as one reaches the tail end of the whale.

I don't have much experience drawing whales, but the perception of the water's waves and light play on the orca's back just seems off to me. I could be completely wrong, though.

I adore this picture to no end, despite all my nitpicking, for which I apologize. Its strengths far outnumber any quibbles of mine, and the orca calf is just the most adorable creature I have ever seen.
