Not easy at all to maintain balance amid the contrast between two such stark components in a picture, and yet maintain the whole. It's really very beautifully done! I love it all, but my favourite points have to be the reddish silhouette of a woman in the (near) bottom left corner; the twinkling of neon lights behind the leaves in the far bottom right near foreground; and - most of all - the velvety blanket that is the sky, which looks so lush and rich particularly set against the sprawling metropolis below it! Fantastic !

Hi Peet! Sorry for late reply, but I assure you that Your kind words makes me so happy!! To receive such an encouraging and nice comment from a great artist like yourself is truly fantastic!!πEspecially since this painting was one of the trickiest ever for me. I wanted to create a depth and to use a really colourful palette, but yet keep the view βcredibleβ and somewhat realistic. Itβs a dream about looking out over Paris from Sacre-Coeur, just looking at all the windows and lights... Also it was important to me to capture the bright silhouette of Notre Dame in the middle of it all. The painting was actually only half-planned when I began and the window with the girl, and the neon in the lower parts I made up along the way as the painting evolved. Painting like this was a true experience in letting go of planning and given perspectives. I canβt describe how happy I am that you liked it and cared to tell me in such a kind note!! Again THANKS!! Have a great and creative week!! β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ

Wow, this is so nice...
Any advice on how to draw cityscapes and skylines?
I struggle with them a lot, but I want to draw them so badly...

Hi buddy!! Iβve been a bit inactive on DA lately, but I really hope to change that! Itβs so nice to hear from you! Hmm, advice is always hard but I can try! π I always start with the sky and keeping the higher houses on the horizon clean from paint. That creates the basic silhouette to work with. I try to reflect some colours from the neon lights by putting some into the wet sky by the horizon. Then I work from the horizon and downwards. In the beginning itβs good to sketch a bit with a soft pen the different layers of houses and directions of streets. However itβs important not to sketch too much since the lines may shine through the bright parts and destroy the feeling of brightness... Most of all it is important not to try to follow a photo in details but to focus on a believable perspective... Idk if that can help you at all, but I hope you continue practicing!!! Have a great evening buddy!! πβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ

I'm yet again amazed by the level of detail and the wonderful lighting! (I mean, just look at the figure standing in the window, or how that neon sign on the building in middle is glowing)
Also, my first thought was Paris, so I'd say you captured it really well!

Wow omg!! Iβm so glad for your nice words Eliana! β€οΈ I was really struggling with the lights and contrast in this one! That neon sign felt like such an important piece to complete this painting and when that turned out nice I felt that I had to finish it! It was a turn around! π Iβm soooo happy you like it! I get encouraged to do another one soon! Have a great and inspiring day!! β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈπΈ

I'm looking forward to the next one!
I find it amazing how you do these strong contrasts with watercolor, as I have found working with dark watercolor very difficult (and I have a very hard time creating any contrast at all). Your use of contrast makes your pictures look really alive.

Thank you!! Yes, with watercolour you have to be aggressive with the amount of colours to get contrasts and not to get afraid... Your kind and warming words really means a lot to me and I hope to present the next one soon!! β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
