I just realized I didn't have this picture in my favorites! Thanks again for making this, NeoRetro10K. I LOVE it.

I'm really glad to hear that! Seriously, you just made my day. I've been absent from deviantART and FanFiction, and every time I get frustrated with myself for not being more creative, I remember what you said about writing what we NEED to write, and it calms me down.
Eventually I want to come back to FanFiction with something big. I only have vague ideas at the moment, so it may take even more time, and I'm not even sure if I can do it. Anyway, I've always been fascinated by phrases that can be interpreted differently depending on the situation; TV Tropes calls this an 'Ironic Echo'. I was thinking my title could be one of those things. I also want to explore the meaning of second chances, and whose chance it actually is, and whether or not that person uses that chance in the "right" way.
Anyway, sorry for babbling, but I guess I needed to write that out to someone.
Good luck with your own stories! The newest chapter of your Dan/Valerie collection was incredibly emotional and well-written!

Haha, thank you! I'm glad that you enjoyed the latest update to the Dan/Val collection. And I'm always happy to be babbled at. Especially when it's about the art of writing.
Regarding "being more creative," is this still in relation to writer's block? Or is it more about making an idea original? If the former, feel free to reach out on this site or the Fanfiction site, and I'd be happy to chat it out with you anytime you need a sounding board. If the latter, then my understanding is that no idea is created in a vacuum. We all construct our ideas based upon what we're exposed to, and most of our ideas are just fanfiction of previous ideas, which are fanfiction of previous ideas and so on until you realize that all fiction is just a reordering of concepts from real life, which we never created but naturally experience and observe. So I question what "more creative" even is, haha.
But I like your use of the Ironic Echo. Typically, the more ambiguous and multi-faceted you can make something, the more it allows your reader to create meaning with you. And that dialogue is the difference between stories that die off, and stories that keep living.
And now I'm rambling, haha. But I just wanted to encourage you as you work out your writing. You can do it!

I suppose wanting to be more creative entails getting past my year-long writer's block, though I'll admit I wanted to come up with a new way to combine old ideas too, but I need to do the first before I do the second.
As for my idea regarding what the meaning of a second chance is, I'm not sure as to the length of that story just yet. I can't decide if this would be a full-length story (which would be a first for me) or another one-shot, something with which I have much more experience. It could go either way with my current outline, but a full story would require a lot of padding, which is what I have problems with.
I am among those authors who frequently use line breaks to simulate time skips, because I feel like I want to tell the "important" stuff, with other events being unnecessary in my mind. I DO think that stories need calm scenes to balance out action or drama, but at the same time, those are the least engaging for me to write.
This is something I feel like I need to get past if I want to flesh out a full-length story, even if I just want to write the exciting parts. Although some may see it as "filler", I realize authors can use it do some world-building, or maybe even throw in some foreshadowing into an otherwise "un-noteworthy" scene. I just need to follow my own advice and do that instead of skipping right to the "good parts".
I'm not sure when I'll actually be ready to write, though. My weeks just got a lot harder to organize now that I have a job, and I'm also going to start a summer class next week. I'm glad for that, but it certainly doesn't help my writer's block. But, I need the job, and I really wanted that class, so I guess I've got my priorities, as much as I enjoy writing fanfiction. I hope I can be back on FanFiction.net soon, even if it's to write something different than what I said I've been planning to write.

Priorities are a good thing to have, haha. I do wish you good luck in your job and summer classes! Those are definitely more important on the spectrum of things to do. Fanfiction will always be waiting for you whenever you get back.
Regarding "filler scenes" and skipping to write the good parts, I'd honestly suggest just writing whatever comes to mind first. We have this concept in our heads that because we READ a novel in a linear fashion (beginning to end) that we have to WRITE that way. I suppose if you are trying to very quickly publish chapters in a serial fashion, that doesn't give you a lot of leg room to work with. But if you have time and you're capable of holding off from initiating the publish phase just yet, it can be helpful to write those scenes that are itching the most in the back of your mind, regardless of how far into the plot they are. That way, you can get your thoughts about it out on paper (before you lose your interest) and can arrange those scenes according to your outline. Then when you're working on "connecting" everything together, you already have some content written!
But time skips and being aware of "filler" information are important to consider, for sure. If you never skip any time at all, you risk your story falling into the mundane where you have to describe every detail in every day. Most stories will skip gaps of time, unless they're a one-shot that focuses on one specific event. But many bildungsroman (coming of age/growing up) stories will skip YEARS if those years aren't formative for the purpose of the plot.
So skipping time is important in a longer story, and you can use it to your advantage. But the important thing is to do it purposefully. To know what you're gaining or losing. To understand how it might affect the reader's understanding, or how it might increase plot suspense.
Anyway, these are just some thoughts for you that you can either ignore or think about. Hope it helps some.

A wild comment has appeared!
All joking aside, thanks for the compliment! As simple as Butch Hartman's style looks, it's actually somewhat difficult to pull off perfectly, or at least it is to me. Your work looks much better, but then you probably have access to better drawing programs that allow vector art. Due to lack of money, I'm currently limited to Paint and YoYo Games Game Maker, which are both pixel-based.

Cool, a Pokemon reference. xD
You're welcome! Oh, I know what you mean, believe me. When I started out it was such a hassle, heck it still is a hassle honestly. Backgrounds are really hard for me.
I draw my pictures with pencil and then I scan them to my laptop and then use Photoshop White Rabbit (CS5) to vector and color them.

Yes, I would do vector art as well; I'm familiar with Illustrator more than Photoshop though, because I used Illustrator in a Computer Art Studio class. Either program is too expensive for me to personally own though, so I'm limited to pixels...
