Description
Dreadnaught class corvette, from the lesser-known spacesim I-War. (Independence War here in the US.) I always loved the two I-War games, ridiculously difficult controls in the original not withstanding. Something about a Newtonian physics model in a space combat sim that's just great to place with; switch off your ship's inertial correction, flip head over tails and shoot whatever poor bastard is trying to tail you.Pretty sure they're up for sale on GOG.com these days; might go buy 'em if you get a chance.
Model done by CAClark at Foundation3D; surface color job done by me.

Awesome! But I don't remember the big pod/pylons being part of the original look - with the modular nature of the "Dreadnaughts" this is a nice adaptation tho.
I always found the "Bridge" on those funny as well - going all the way of having a quasi-newtonic flight system, only to have a "Spaceboat" deck layout and Trek like artificial gravity struck me as very odd at the time, but I suppose you can't go completely without media-SciFi tropes.
Now I'd like to see a rebel-version of the design

The pylons were pretty much always there (

It has been awfully long since I last played it.
You're right - it's so established, that any other configuration looks just wrong. It's pretty much a coconut-horse.
Anyway, it's a neat example on how some things are getting reabsorbed into the media that inspired them.

Yes, it was. Certainly one of my favorites.
