I'm surprised it's not on the front page, I mean it's stick figures and happiness.
(I gave up arguing about this type of thing, DA is full of dumb fav Sheep, to afraid to go against popularity by being critical thinkers.)

It's a big internets. There are probably hundred's more pictures made daily that should be up there with the rest of them, but not everybody knows everybody or pays as much attention to their surroundings as they'd like to. I find things I like but usually on occasion when poking around other ppl's favorites.

The "popular" section show images that got many views,favs and comments. Is an automatic process so there is none who decides what goes there other than the fans who fav/comment in a picture
Getting upset over it is silly. It may not the best system but in the end the popular section is pretty democratic.

My goal is to get to the front page. I just made it to 11000 page views and I had only just gotten 10000. I think the more you put yourself out there-and the more you improve-then you'll get more watchers and more favorites. No, not all work on the front page is what I would think Quality, but it apparently is to the people who favorite it. It's easy to get jealous of popularity, but you have to remember we all started the same way. Opening a deviantART account and creating art to express ourselves, to make people laugh, to point out ironies, or to create fan art and soft-core pornography. We all started in different ways...but we all just want our art to be recognized.

Here is the sticking point for many artists (myself included).
When you become popular you get a built-in audience through the watch system here, then you get an additional audience from those who see other artists' faves, so if you are popular already you automatically get more exposure. Should everyone get equal exposure? That I don't know, it's a tough question to grapple with.
Of course talking about the front page and how it works. I don't know what the mechanics are behind getting to the front page but I do know that 99% of the time there is nothing of interest there. I much prefer to operate in my community of artists and rely on my own eyes to determine what's cool. That said, I used to enjoy the Daily Deviation stuff but even that has become boring and full of politics...
So I wish you much luck getting to the front page with this, "stick" it to 'em!

I look at whats on the front page of dA and its all art. Some I may not like, but I dont see anything rubbish like this. I see 2 stamps out of 120 deviations. Personal taste aside, its all art. Not rubbish.
Why would a popular artist post rubbish just to get on the front page? Satire, or mocking everyone else who tries? Its different if an unknown artist makes it, if a popular artist does it, and you support it, its telling everyone how shit and unpopular they are compared to this artist, who only has to draw stickmen to get faves.
This isnt satire, this is an ego trip to see if anything the artist produces can become popular. If you support this, well done, you got a little brown on your nose.

No. The point is that most of the daily features suck. True, there are some every day that make it to the front page that actually deserve to be there, such as that one. but your example represents a dispropotionately sparse--seemingly almost token--percentage, versus the stuff on there that doesn't really need to be.

First page = marketing or nudity (increase cup size = increase height in first page).
Sell yourself well and you'll get first page. Add to many groups, fave as many people as possible to get fave back, send posts to many people. Eventually it'll pay back.
Little to do with talent.
Then, if you got marketing, talent and the elusive cup size, you will always go to the top
