Description
Gilgamesh - Pen and Ink on mixed media paper. Before Marvel introduced the character known as #Gilgamesh as an Eternal, his tale was told more than 4000 years prior in Ancient Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq, Kuwait and parts of Syria). Passed down through oral tradition from generation to generation, the Epic of Gilgamesh was documented on cuneiform clay tablets—cuneiform being the oldest form of writing known in recorded history. Whether King Gilgamesh really did exist is not known, but, his name is included in the Sumerian Kings list.
Strong and powerful, Gilgamesh is described as a goring wild bull. At the start of the epic, he’s credited with building high city walls to protect his people, and, is the first to discover techniques for killing wild bulls, sailing ocean going craft and diving for coral.
