Description Ancient Egypt is kind of a hobbie of mine. Now we're learning about it in art history! Yay! These two are my favorite gods in the Egyptian pantheon and ever since I was in middle school I so wanted them to be an item. So I guess they're my first fan pairing?

Very nice picture, and I agree with you, Bast and Anubis are married. It's just tinkering by later priests that changed that to and fro several times over the millenia. When one looks at it from a philosophical viewpoint it makes sense for them to be married since the ancient Egyptians loved duality, and here we have life and death as a married couple, the ultimate duality

Thanks! I'm a huge fan of Egypt. At one point I had read every book on Egyptology our school library had. I remember being so angry at this one book for saying the Jackle headed god was Seth, I threw it down in a huff and never read past that sentence.

While I'm learning how they expressed serifs in typefaces during the 1890's...

Hehe- I like this- especially the cat-god. Nice anatomy too.

Anubis is the Egyptian god of enbalming, the judge of all souls gatekeeper to the underworld, and protector of the dead. He was also the patron god of lost souls and orphans.

Bast is the goddess of ointment, war, fertility and motherhood, patron goddess of lower egypt, and also a protector of the pharoh.

I did a little digging and it turns out in some legends Bast is Anubis's mother others that she was his wife. I opt for the later.
