Description This was kind of an off the cuff drawing I did for a fellow. Not sure if he has a DA, but I've sent him the drawing privately. He approves! He really loves the character Digby and I never drew him before. So it was fun to tackle!

This was a nice drawing to get some practice on doing backgrounds. I have projects in the works, so I was kind of taking some time to practice using all sorts of tools for the background.

I guess I should make a few announcements on said projects, huh? No worries, I'll be writing a journal after submitting this.

Anyway! So, as you can see, Digby is more or less how I like drawing my characters. Typical lines, light cell shading, etc. Although, by request, I kept him closer to his original game style. Since I usually draw them with more human proportions as well as hands and feet/paws. It was kind of fun sticking closer to the original art style. Certainly easier without the added carpals and tarsals, that's for sure!

For the background, on the other hand.. was completely done without any line work. Which I'm genuinely surprised and even pleased with how it turned out. A multitude of different tools were used in creating the different environmental objects. The green of the trees were completely done with only the brush tool. With some additional lights and darks added afterwards. The stumps were done with a mix of the paint tool, the pen tool, the eraser on a low density, the water blending tool, and some layer opacity, texture, and mode manipulations. More or less, that was pretty much carried over to everything else with some little differences here and there. Drawing each individual triangle for the grass was a pain, but it had to be done. No escaping the tedious stuff, sometimes! If I did ever make an Animal Crossing comic, that's probably the part I'd dread the most. Oi.. XD

[Random Note: I use Paint Tool SAI to draw with. Not sure if I've ever said that on this account. Just in case anyone wanted the context of the tools used.]

I also wish to use this drawing as an example of the quality I will do my best to deliver on with each submission onwards. I'm going to be taking my backgrounds more seriously and it will hopefully become as equally important as the subject or characters I draw. I'll still draw doodles and single characters here and there. Although, I think most of that will go to my Twitter account. I'll discuss everything more in the upcoming journal post.

Um.. I think that's it, really! I like how everything turned out. Digby looks a little villainous, but it's pretty amusing looking. Being in a peaceful part of the village and whatnot.

I hope you like the art! I hope you look forward to the journal update and future submissions!

Take care, everyone!

Ah, it's good ol' Digby! Can't wait to see him again in the new Animal Crossing game!
Nice job on this, especially with the background as you've mentioned. It's quite interesting to see just how much work went into making the whole thing.

Thank you for um.. well, liking the drawing? AND commenting, of course, lol.The background was pretty fun to experiment with! I can't to see what the Switch game will bring to the table.

And here I thought I was the only one who wanted to see more of Digby!

I really like how he looks in this, by the way. And for some reason to me the perspective seems really great for what Animal Crossing typically is!

Mhm, it clearly resembles the rolling hills effect that at least New Leaf has.
Although, a return to the flat-level plane would be a bit nice perhaps? At least in my view.

I was more thinking of the size of the trees in comparison to Digby himself, but I didn't quite word it correctly. You'll see that happen with me every once in a while! XD

Still a nice thing to point out!
