On days when Jake didn't have work, he'd taught her more about how the world works and that money is what keeps things spinning.

A few months after being wth Jake and learning of the world around her, he offered to set her up with a job at a friends place that need help stocking. She took the job, enjoying the job and becoming friends with a few female co-workers who would question about where she came from and if she and Jake were a couple. She was embarrassed, but she laughs it off saying that they are just friends and that he was helping her understand the world around her. On breaks, she would sit in the break room having a sip of coke and reading the first book of The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, a leper who gets transported to a fantasy world called The Land. Reading this book reminds her of her situation and became a fan of the series during the first few chapters.

When her first Christmas, Jake got her some gifts, including a necklace with a bird skull, which she cherishes.
