I wanted to make something nice for

Short story below~ Enjoy the read~ ^^

Vallen quickly regained her focus after what seemed like minutes of a mind numbing ringing in her ears. Everything was musked in a cloud of dust and darkness only pierced by the small cracks of sunlight that creeped in from the crevices. Close by, right in front of her, sat Rogue. It was all coming back to her now. Vallen remembered taking a stroll nearby when she saw Kurt drag Rogue to explore an abandoned mine shaft. Why anyone would want to do such a thing still confused Vallen, but she knew Kurt was a very excitable boy. It wasn’t until they disappeared inside when Vallen took a whiff of heavy level machinery and gasoline. A group of demolition men arrived shortly after with full intention of tearing the mine shaft down. Vallen had no time to run to the men and tell them to stop before they readied their detonators, so instead Vallen turned her attention to the shaft entrance. Luckily Kurt and Rogue weren’t too far away, but once the explosions went off the ground beneath Rogue gave way. Vallen didn’t even think twice before she leapt forward, taking Rogue’s body close to her own as they plummeted several feet below.

Vallen straightened up, a few more explosions could be heard but they stopped suddenly. While it was good the explosions stopped, the cave they found themselves in was not incredibly stable and was cracking away at the second.
“Rogue! Vallen! I got the demo guys to stop! Are you ok!”

“We’re fine blue boy!” Vallen called. “Get us out of here!”

“I-I can’t! I can’t see you guys!” Vallen groaned. It was true, the hole they originally fell through was quickly buried. They were trapped.
“Don’t worry! I’ve called the professor. The team will be here soon!” That wasn’t so bad. Aside from the dizzying condensed pace and the rocky foundation. They could wait this out, right? Well it didn’t seem like it. Vallen glanced at Rogue, who was sitting on her knees, her body held close in on itself. She was clutching the sides of her head and her breathing had gotten more uneven.

“Th-this is so bad.” She stuttered out. “We-we’re gonna die down here.” Vallen frowned and got closer.

“Are you crazy? Don’t say that. We’ll get out of this.”

“That ceiling isn’t gonna hold, they’re not gonna make it. We’re done for!” Rogue slightly rocked back and forth while Vallen began to sweat. They had to remain calm, but Rogue was right. Everything around them was bound to collapse any second now. Vallen clasped her hands over Rogue’s shoulders, getting her full attention.

“Listen to me Rogue, you are going to be fine.” She inched every so closely. Her throat felt like a desert and she had this terrible tightness in her chest. “I’ll make sure of that.” Vallen and Rogue were so close they could feel their body heat from their faces as clear as their own. They were practically touching noses. Vallen clenched her teeth as she stared back at Rogue. Much more relaxed than her, that was for sure, and was she...closing her eyes? It was now or never. Finally the ceiling gave way and several tons of rock and debris rained down.

Now the shaft sat in a pile of debris in an empty field. The X-Men quickly ran to the sight for the search. Logan was first in line looking particularly unnerved. It only took a couple smells of the air for his stomach to drop. He ran to a farther part on the left side and began chucking bits of wood and rock out of the way.

“They’re over here!” He shouted, many of the X-Men team joined him as they desperately began excavating under the mess. With a final heave from Jean and Ashley, they levitated a large mass from the rest and there lay Vallen, unconscious laying on her stomach. Underneath her, shielded from most of the carnage, was Rogue. Logan picked up Vallen under the arms and dragged her close, her more serious burns, lacerations, and possible broken bones showed signs of healing from the get go. While Vallen was out like a light, Rogue coughed as she brushed dirt from her face. Sharing in some similar injuries as Vallen to a lesser extent. Still as Kurt and Scott helped her to her feet, those wounds also healed at a rapid rate. Logan got to his feet with Vallen in his arms.

“Vallen’s healing factor, you were able to get it before the collapse.” Rogue looked at her own hands, amazed at the cuts and scrapes fading away.

“No..she...she gave it to me.” Was her only response. No one really thought much about what she said, although Logan was smiling as he passed Rogue and carried Vallen back to the jet. That statement had a lot more significance to Rogue.

Back at the institute in the medical bay, Vallen sprang up in her bed.

“Easy there kid, you’re safe now. You can put those away.” Logan was of course referring to Vallen’s claws. She looked around.

“Where’s Rogue?”

“She’s doing fine. Thanks to you.” Vallen sighed and leaned back into a pillow. “You know, that was a pretty incredible thing what you did back there.” Vallen looked away at nothing in particular.

“It was the right thing to do. It was what any of you would have done.”

“Which is why you belong here just as anyone else.” Vallen looked down in her lap rubbing her hands together.

“Vallen, I know things didn’t go the way we wanted at first. But I can spend the rest of my life making sure things get better. Even if you choose to leave again, there’s always a place for you here.” Vallen couldn’t help but smile.

“It’s pretty cozy here. I think I might stay a while.” Logan in turn smiled and stood up.

“That’s the spirit. I’ve got to grab the professor to help you settle in. I’ll be right back.” As he left Vallen leaned back and closed her eyes, letting out another sigh. In the doorway stood Rogue. Vallen invertitadly sniffed when she breathed in, shaking her back up again.

“Rogue?! How long have you been standing there?”

“Only a minute. I’ve been coming and going since we got back.”

“Are you ok?” Rogue giggled, which caused Vallen to blush.

“Am I ok? What about you? I’m not the one sitting in a hospital bed.” Vallen chuckled nervously.

“I guess I did take a lot of that cave in, huh?” Rogue swayed over and sat on the edge of the bed.

“That you did. And you did all that for me.” Vallen rubbed the back of her neck.

“I told you you’d be fine.”

“Yeah. I can really count on you. Thanks Vallen.” Rogue stood back up ready to head out; as she got the doorway, she turned.
“By the way, welcome to the X-Men sugar.”
