I know how he got Nick's DNA, in the episode "Boom" Nick is accused of killing a girl that he slept with the night before. So to prove he was innocent Catherine had Greg check Nick's 'little soldiers' to prove time of death.
I thought that was what you were going with, Greg has some alone time and looks again, and Surprise!
