Description
EuroCosplay Finalist Mathoz (France) as Commisar YarrikFrom Warhammer 40k
So, so much love for this costume, I was in total awe of it at all times, even when it was out of view. Just being in the same city as it provokes awe.
[3D Autostereogram Photograph - sit back and level with the picture, find a point of interest and cross your eyes until the point from both pictures overlap, relax and your eyes should focus from there, it may take a few tries, if it hurts try sitting further back, or stop XD]
Taken at London MCM Expo 18, London ExCeL Centre, October 2010

Sorry for the delay!
I'm just the photographer, you'll have better luck with the cosplayer themselves - www.cosplay.com/costume/342273…
Or search for cosplay commissioners in your area, most are multitalented

what a great idea, I should do this with some of my deviations so people can get a sense of dimension

brilliant costume, is the claw heavy or mostly hollow?
would also comment that with the sword on that side vaaary difficult to be able to draw I'm assuming it's on the left so it doesnt get in the way of the claw?

I didn't get a close a look as I'd have liked but I believe it was mostly hollow - he had it on quite a long time and didn't seem to have huge difficulty with it - it also worked and pincered XD
The sword's short enough to be pulled out from the same side, though all the designs I've seen it's been on the claw side so I guess it's more for comfort reasons

BOW BEFORE THE MIGHTY COMMISSAR YARRICK!
Very nice and I agree with Leadmill, this is some of the best WH40K cosplay I've ever seen.

Wow... this is great! What kind of camera did you use to shoot this awesome cosplay?

Canon EOS 450D
There is an little table that's called "Camera Data" on the right side of this page

So far, I wasn't aware you could shoot 3D with a 450D... But that's what Photoshop's for, isn't it?

You can shoot 3D with anything that'll take pictures - it's just a pita to get right XD And yeah, stitched together in Photoshop/PSP/Gimp/etc, no fancy filters or anything required.
Just kind of requires you to be moving with camera on rapidfire, and the rest of the world to stay reeeeally still for a few seconds. Or to have two cameras, a bracket and a simultaneous shutter release for both..
You can get £90ish cap-lenses that supposedly do it in a single shot but not used one myself, a little dubious as to how well they work, but I'd like to try.

How do you calculate the distance between the two objects, so you crop the pic the correct size? I'd like to try the effect with some pics from my last vacation...
And our modern age made cams available that shoot 3D in one go. I tried some of them during this year's Photokina (world's largest photography and imaging fair)... Cool items but at this time way too expensive...

No need, you overlap them in your editor of choice, set the top one to 50% opacity and match them up
Basically pick the point you want to use as the focus - the part that will be at the level of the 2D picture, usually in my case their face - and match the two images until it's crisp and unblurred, everything closer or further away in reality will look slightly blurred or offset.
Once that's done, crop off all the edges that don't overlap and you've got your final size!
From there there's two main options,
Anaglyph (red/cyan 3d glasses stuff):
Make the top layer opaque again, put each layer in its own group and with each create a new layer on top, fill one with cyan, the other red, set those layers to 'Screen', and set the top group to 'Multiply' - then grab some 3D glasses and see if you got it the right way around XD
Typically if you're flicking between the images, whichever makes the subject look like it's more to the left of your screen should be the cyan one, if in doubt just look through the glasses and if your eyes go WHAT THE HELL then swap the colours XD
Autostereogram:
Make the top layer opaque again, expand the canvas 200% wide and slap the images side by side, like above. If you've already done the anaglyph, then the cyan layer is the one that goes on the right, otherwise again go with whichever hurts eyes less XD
Yeah I'm always keeping an eye on the 3D tech around, sadly the dedicated stuff tends to be gimmicky, like the 3D webcam or compact cameras with two lenses, no sensible solutions for dslrs yet
No matter what method I use there's always a group of people who can't/won't enjoy it though XD Most lack glasses or have one eye too dominant to see it properly, or they have trouble with the crosseyed method.. Can't win T_T
I was even trying to get a homemade 3D lenticular display going, but they don't make sheets with the LPI I'd need, dammit!

I know what you mean about the trouble with people just not seeing what can be seen... A while back, while I still was an editor of the German Advanced Photoshop mag, we did a tutorial on creating 3D and lenticular images with Photoshop. Afterwards, we got some mails from people who just couldn't get the whole thing right, even though they were using proper settings...
Thanks for the insights on autostereograms. I'll try that with some images I took during my last vacation...

It's both so simple yet so tricky XD
I've always been in awe of 3D stuff as a kid so finding out how to do it was just asking for abuse of the concept
Cool, hope they come out okay
