Description
~*~Isabelle, or Izzy as her friends call her, is a gypsy princess. She never knew her father, though she is told many a story about him. Her mother has never told her who her real father was; just that her father was a handsome pirate and would someday return to them. One night while Izzy and her fellow gypsy ‘brother’, Veshengo, were walking through the town they so often visited, they came across a pirate who looked so familiar they had to follow him….
In the tavern the mysterious pirate sat at a table in the corner. Cautiously, Izzy walked toward the table where he sat. “Your eyes, Izzy,” Veshengo whispered to her, “they look jus’ like ‘is..”
Indeed they do Izzy thought to herself. “Our eyes are th’ same color, Veshengo,” Izzy whispered back, “but we are not kin…” They sat down at a table next to the pirate’s. They did not want to seem suspicious, so, Veshengo stood up and did a gypsy yell. The tavern fell silent; all eyes were on him.
“Listen, yeh pirates all! Me name is Veshengo, Gypsy Prince, and this is me ‘sister’, Isabelle. The princess of gypsies! We now are going to perform for you all!” Everyone, including the mysterious pirate next to them, was looking at Izzy. Veshengo helped her up from the seat and then he sat down and pulled the drum that hung around his neck to the front of himself.
Veshengo started to play the drums. Bum budduh bum bum bum. Izzy moved her hips in rhythm to the drum’s beating. Jingle jangle jingle went her bells. She spun around and her long hair flowed beautifully behind her.
Her eyes opened upon the pirate they were stalking before, her bells jingling as she danced away, her arms out in front of her, summoning the handsome pirate towards her.
The pirate raised a brow, questioning this young gypsy’s motives. He set down his ale mug and slowly approached the girl.
“The man always smelled of rum,” her mother used to tell her. He smells of rum…
“His eyes were dark like the night sky, and rimmed with black kohl…” Just like…
“Father…” Izzy said aloud. She had stopped dancing when the pirate had stopped in front of her. Izzy had her hand stretched out ready to touch the pirate’s face. Veshengo got up from his seat, swinging the drum behind his back as he did so.
“What did ye jus’ say, lass?” the pirate questioned her.
“What’s your name-?” Izzy asked.
“Come Izzy, we have stay’d over past our welcome. Let us leave,” said Veshengo in a worried voice.
Veshengo grabbed Izzy’s arm and led her out of the tavern. Izzy’s eyes never left the pirate that stood back at the spot where she danced for him.
“Name’s Jack…” he said as she went through the door…
