Description
I'm a huge fan of vintage clothing-- especially dresses. But they're either too expensive, too small, or both. I had always wanted to make my own vintage inspired dresses, but it's hard to find appropriate prints. Or it was. This gorgeous print is a true vintage fabric-- though it's a little newer than it looks. On a trip to the thrift store, I made the life altering discovery (okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a little) that 70s era bedsheets have the same sort of prints that 50s era dresses did. Yes, I made this dress out of an old bedsheet. But avoid fitted sheets since they're more likely to have worn areas in the center. Carefully check the entire sheet for stains. Of course, if you cut carefully, sometimes you can work around small flaws.
The dress itself is of my own design. I love full skirts, wide, high waistbands, and cap sleeves. I made my daughter a matching mini-dress and she helped me pick out the flowers for the hair accessories and the beads for the necklaces. I love the little Swarovski crystals at the center.

Thank you! It was her favourite dress for two summers. This year, it's too short even with leggings, but it might work with jean shorts. Or I could just make her another one. I still have about a quarter of the sheet left.

Wow, you still have left overs from the fabric? You sure thought about your patterns and the amount of fabric you need
I think it would still look great with jeans shorts. But then again: you could also make a new one

I'm not sure if there's enough left for a whole other dress, but certainly enough to mix with a complementary fabric and still have an obvious match. I actually wasted a TON of fabric on my first attempt. Because it was a $3 sheet, it was cheaper to make my muslins from the sheet than muslin. I think I cut three bodices before I was finally happy with the one I used.
