I think he's not exactly bloodthirsty, like a mindless killing machine.
The method he use to obliterate his foes made him look as if he's The Devil himself.
Imagine, all those training to protect the ones you cared for was for nothing... your family still die in front of your eyes.
There's a moment when someone break so bad..they end up becoming everyone's nightmare.
