I was going through my old sketchbooks, and discovered I did a ton of art for No Echidna Is An Island (a fic of mine, found here: [link] ). But I never posted any of it because it gave away the ending. This pic I had actually inked before setting it aside, and it was dated February 04. 0.oAnyway, this is in the end of No Echidna, when the manticore has finally fallen and nearly taken Knuckles and Zephyer with it. I was a bit squeamish about posting it, because I don't do romance pics of any kind, but I decided the surrealistic manticore carcass in the background made up for it. So here it is. Ph33r.

That's a Manticore? I thought they looked like lions with bat wings and scorpion tails. (That's the My Little Pony variant I saw.)

I'd post more of that genre myself but I don't want to give away too much of my own stories since they're not complete.
And of course, nothing completes the mood like a bloody manticore carcass in the background. Don't those glazed, lifeless eyes just give off the right lighting?

I find it hard to draw romantic pics because I see so many horribly-drawn pics of fanchars kissing canon chars, and that's what leaps to mind when I even consider it.

O.K. about the manicore, when I was sitting down it was almost completly covered in shadow, so I thought: "aw man, I really wanted to see it." so, I stand up and look again,see it,and I say "HOLY CRAP!" That right there is a scary looking animal-thing. nothing like I ever imagioned when I read the fan-fic. No wonder it scared Espio senceless, and he only saw the leg, imagion if he saw the whole thing. *shudders* BUT... awsome pic. really.

NR, I think you have a future in doing artwork of Surrealistic/Scifi/Fantasy creatures. The Manticore in the BG is Really believable, unlike my version, XD Maybe you should start looking into getting your stuff published in that form.

Somehow, it doesn't shock me that you wanted to "cancel out" a mush scene with the soon-to-be raptor meal in the BG, as well at their warrior-attire.

A romantic drawing... with dead stuff in the background! Those are the best kinds of romantic drawings, in my opinion.
The strange thing about the Manticore is that its wings make it creepy to me, not it's face. I don't know why, though, something about them just startles me whenever I look at them. Love the dirt and grime you added on Knuckles and Zephyer, and the exhausted, yet fulfilled expression Knuckles has. They both look genuinely knackered here; tired expressions are hard to pull off without making a character look sick at the same time, in my opinion. Good job. :3

Thanks for the kind comments! I can't seem to make the manitcore look really frightening, face-wise, but the body is easy to make scary. Just keep adding legs until the proper amount of freakiness is acquired. XD And thanks for the comments on their expressions. I drew this pic twice until I got it looking the way I wanted, and I still think my first few sketches looked better in some ways. Oh well.
Maybe I should salvage some of my other No Echidna art.

When it comes to realistic animal faces it's hard to make them look frightening, mostly because most animals tend to have small almond shaped eyes. They're usually not very expressive like human eyes, and they don't have eyebrows to help out either.
And if you've got other No Echidna art... SHOW IT! Don't forget about the scraps section here. (*nudges*)

I've been trying to picture what the manticore looked like. I had some really freaky images in my mind. Yes, this confirms it...

I just have to say you did a really good job with Zephyer's pose on the ground, I know at least for me it's harder to draw them than standing poses. The coloring effects work nicely, especially the added glow reflection on Knuckles' shoes and leg and Zephyer from the glowing swords, the dirt really gives the impression that there really was a fight before this. I only noticed that something about how Knuckles is sittng on the ground is a little weird to me, I dunno I think it's more of a perspective thing which I understand is very hard to do. So yea, nice work it's real dramatic piece too with the lighting and all.
I'm also going to have to remember to read your fan fictions some time, but I'm always so busy with school and other obligations.

That was one of my favorite fics. Rock on! It's turned my stomach to see the manticore. Looks like a lot like a demonic rat.

Just to get a better feeling of this, I read the first chapter of your story to go with it ^__^ I didn't really know what Zephyer was like, so I guessed it might be a good idea if I checked.
Awesome details as always here! I like how you did the smudged dirt all over their bodies, and the poses look pretty accurate. Very nice coloration, and the soft glow of the weapons looks great. That's a pretty peculiar dead creature in the background, too. Looks like a lion crossed with an insect, LOL. *looks a little closer* Oh! Lion and scorpion. That's a neat idea. =]
You did great with the lighting. You did a really nice job of the sort of darkinside feeling, like they're in a cave or something. I like your writting, and your drawings do a good job of illistrating the way you portray the characters.

The real plot of the story doesn't really get started until chapter 3 (and you get to see that Zephyer isn't nauseatingly nice--she and Knux fight for pretty much the whole fic.) Thanks for your nice comments! I may not always respond, but I always appreciate them. In-depth comments are hard to write and just as hard to come by.
