Cheers dude! Really need a bigger lens... Was looking into hiring an 800mm for a few days but is pricey.

You just need to get closer. Most wildlife photographers shoot with 300 400mm. They just get close with patience and practice.

Wildlife photographers 300-400mm usually sufficient yes. Bird photographers - not so much. Most birding photographers usually start at no less than 500mm + a TC, (except for bigger and less skitish birds).
Problem with coastal birds though is theres no cover. Your wide out in the open and the the wrong movement and the wrong time and bang! The entire lot are gone lol so longer glass would help in that wouldn't have to get so close,Β Not to mention the ethical considerations of getting too close to a subject etc.
For this particular spot at any rate a longer focal length is the only option as the main lake is both fenced off and surrounded by a 'moat' lol.Β I was just fortunate enough that they got close enough to the other side of the moat / fence but this is still cropped in

Beautiful. Did you get the reflection as well and crop it?

Thanks. Yup go the reflections but the composition worked better when cropped in. Water wasn't perfectly still and there was a little bit of gumph floating around too.
Thanks again! Please feel free to follow me on Facebook! (Trying to get my work out thereΒ a bit more and build up my likes!)
