Description You were warned - I told you there would be more glowy things! Shadrad, a wonderful artist I met at Nekocon, inspired me to go back to my sketchbooks, get off my ass and make this piece happen.

Yes, it normally takes weeks or months (sometimes years!) to post on dA, but here I am with my second post in one day. This, also is a result of Nekocon. I met so many accomplished artists there that I'm actually not sorry I didn't make money. I got paid in KNOWLEDGE, and that's worth more than anything.

Please let me know what you think...

Beautiful....

I love the harmonics of colours here, and the way they flow through the hulls.

Delicious

My goodness, that was fast!

The designs are amazing, conceptually its beyond what I can usually manage since I would say my designs are 'organic' in the sense that 'I have no idea WTF I am drawing until it appears there on the screen'. Your design ability allows you a level of detail I'm not yet able to achieve...

But since you asked for thoughts, what I'd like to see from this piece, and only because I'm in that whole 'ainting' phase, is more of the background of this piece incorporated into the coloring of the ships, and more diversity in the brightness of your lines-- I'm seeing so much of your amazing detail lost in a sea of bright light, where I think you could probably make some lines thinner and keep the light to certain areas so the transparency of these ships really, pun unintended, shine through.

So, if it were ME, I would say make the outer parts of the ship a little dimmer and more transparent than the inner parts, so they become part of their environment rather than razor-edged ships cutting through space-- which is a perfectly viable idea, but I think this design embodies more of a floating, flowing concept, like they could be perfectly at home in either water OR space.

So there, blah, now I get to feel like A REAL ARTIST REVIEWER PERSON.. OPINION.. GUY... with.. uh. .... yeah, that.

I understand what you're saying. Now that I've said that, let me turn it around. Since a picture is worth a thousand words, would you be willing to redline a piece for me? That is, I will post the black and white linework (or is it white and black?) to my scrapbook. If you're willing, please show me your take on it.

I know it's an imposition, but it would help me a lot if you can make the time.

Conceptually it's really strong and I think the foundation of it, the general idea, is really good. There is room for the portrayal of jellyfish-like creatures as benevolent, and I think that's what you're getting at here.

But I'd say muddy it up more - texture layers. As it stands now the medium is really apparent, tweak it until people don't know it's digital art, esp. as far as the background goes.

That's my two cents.

Okay, I can get behind that. I'll give some thought to more texture in my next piece. Perhaps it's time to use that photo-reference I've got lying around... Common sense - what a concept... o_0
