Description Y'know, sometimes it's cool to just put stuff up, warts and all.

This design is one that I've been refining for some time. I've been hiding it for some time, but thanks to vulnepro's advice, I'm sharing it with y'all.

The CosmoSoldier is one of the "grunt mechs" of human-type Civilization forces in The Galaxy Chronicles. Of COURSE there's a story behind it... but I write slower than I draw. ^_^

This design is currently being updated and cleaned up. I shall post the revised version here soon.

I HAVE watched it, but the influence here is more Five Star Stories than anything else. Oh, if you mean the flight-pack, the X-wing fighter was my biggest influence. I've always liked the idea of the X-pattern wings attached to a mech... ^__^

Glad you're back on line! Is it you, or your mother's PC?

Also glad you like the piece. I'm already working on the revised version - sooooo much to do... >_<

Very nice. It's easy for me to visually pull out which pieces and parts are attached to what, and how they all fit together.

Hey thanks Scott! I just dropped by your site and read your analysis of the Leyendecker piece... very well done! What does it say that I'm most enamored of the detail work on the staircase in that piece? I'm currently working on getting down the color sequencing used to render the railings.

Warts and all sometimes is indeed a good thing and frankly this is groovin'. I think it's a cool looking design with some visually pleasing aesthetics. I rather dig the torso and intake configuration you have going on here. There are a lot of nice shapes and lines in the machine's stance and silhouette. Indeed I understood where you were coming from on posting work but I suppose it will all come together the more you feel comfortable with posting. This is all very solid stuff and distinct, clearly your style and take on mecha.

Cool beanz

I like it. I'm not sure what to make of it though, it's of a style completely alien to my way of looking at mecha...and that, I think, is a good thing. ^^

I think, if there's anything I'd have to say stands out, it's the way you've incorporated feminine elements into the desgin without making it overdone and simply, "Femi-Mech," It's subtle and believable, methinks. ^^

I'm a big fan of Mamoru Nagano's art style (Five Star Stories, L-Gaim). His adaptation of fashion aesthetics to mecha design is one of the greatest innovations in SF illustration.

I'm learning how to do something similar, but I want to learn to do it my way. It'll come eventually... ^_^

Thanks for the encouragement! "Believable" is one of the best things a mecha-designer can hear!

This is you man, I'm not seeing cliches that I think came from other artists, I really see this as an evolution of your work. The coloring is good, maybe needs a bit more polish (like I'm one to talk), and possibly something a little harder/more concrete in terms of the shadow cast across the ground is needed.

But I like this a lot, the face plate is almost... serene? It's got a calm to it by this nice balance of complexity and like some kinda seashell/snail/organic mix.

If this is the warts n all version I am very much looking forward to the next iteration.

Thanks! The revisions include:

Cleanup of the shoulder launcher pods.

A second go-round on the head design.

A re-do of the coloring and texture work. This was my first attempt at computer-coloring one of my line-drawings, and I've learned a lot since then.

And I really thank you for your statement about cliches. I've always been afraid of overusing inspiration that I get from other artists. Thanks again for your words!
