I love it.
The scene is extremely appropriate for inclusion in my roleplaying campaign.
It is set at the outskirts of the west roman empire, 435 AD, and I like the idea of germanic peoples of this age keeping the old roman tradition of gladitorial games alive in private fighting pits, in spite that such barbaric customs had recently been banned by the christian church.
Few of the germanics had been christianized in this age, anyhow, and old habits (norse religion considering death by combat to be glorious and sacred) die hard at all times, of course.

Should you find the time and inclination to play around with it, I'd love a mod of it with the stair entrance placed externaly to the square, so that the rune circle is fully exposed, and the square is also unhindered for use as fighting pit and such.
If you decide to do it, also please make a version without embellishments such as the lionheads and the plant reliefs. My editions of the germanic peoples are too crude and pragmatical to bother with such 'useless' finery

Re-download the zip.

Hope that works for you!

Thanks!

I think the last design in its entirety would tend to block the line of sight of interested spectators, but the new version was certainly still helpful, and much appreciated.
I just cropped it a bit to separate the chainflanked pit from the rest, so I can now install it in appropriate brick flors... much obliged!

Want any specific type of statue/ornament on the four corners, or just leave the perimeter plain?

You're welcome.

Ugh...I never though of that. Duh! But maybe stadium seating could be used to solve the line of sight problem.

It would be easy enough to do a couple more variations. I'm thinking one with the back and side drop shadows removed, so it could be placed flush with an upper level floor, and another version of that with all the chains removed.

Additional versions would be useful and appreciated, of course.

The plain perimeter works best, thematically, for the norse runes, I think.
Disgruntled heathen roman citizens clinging to the old entertainments might appreciate blood dripping from wellshaped ornaments, of course. But then the runes wouldn't really fit, so a version without them, perhaps?

Also, if you could make a version w a stairway entrance, where the stair looks to be a gradual depression in the surrounding floor, so that the whole png (stair+pit) can be dropped into, say, my clayfloor backgrounds, without line of sight issues, that would be extra nice.

As a more creative suggestion (only because I know you are very good at depth effects): how about a version with a central pit with dark water at the bottom (a 'well' of sorts) with/ without a grate to cover it, so that, on special occasions the grate is removed, to let pitfighters fight along the edges of it, and the losers wind up drowning/freezing to death in there, if pushed in...(supposing that there are no moray eels living in it, to eat them alive, of course) That would certainly make it an arena fit for a king.
