RPG Map Elements 68: Baby CopperheadFormat: .PNG with transparent background
I photographed this little guy last year. He was lounging on a wood pile where I take photos of fungi. He was a tiny little thing... could have
fit in my hand. After living in Texas for a number of years, I've become very wary of snakes, even baby ones. So I used a really long stick to
touch him, trying to get him to move into different poses. Unfortunately, he was really uncooperative... kind of sluggish and lazy (it was a wet,
chilly day) but he didn't like that stick at all and kept striking at it. After a couple of minutes he got really irritated with me messing with him
and slithered away into the wood pile.
I'd forgotten all about these photos until today. I was digging through my files, looking for something else, and stumbled onto them. So... he
finally makes an appearance as elements for your maps! And... I also Google'd him today and found out what he was... Yikes! Good thing I
was really careful. If I'd known at the time what he was, I probably would have dumped him in the woods several miles away. I have no problem
with killing large/adult poisonous snakes that we find around our house (if you have issues with that, go do a Google image search for
"poisonous snake bite" ), but killing little baby ones like this is something I just can't bring myself to do...
He's one of the prettiest snakes I've seen. I did some slight adjustments to colour (because my photos were a bit washed out), but the
original/natural colour version you see in the preview image is very close to what he actually looked like. But pretty or not, I really hope we don't
encounter each other again, or he'll have to go bye-bye... and not in the "have a nice life in the woods, far, far away" kind of way.

Facing poisonous snakes in the pursuit of map elements is certainly going above and beyond the call of duty. You deserve some sort of RPG Map-Maker medal!

Hehe! Well, it was just a tiny little baby, that was also a bit sluggish because of the chilly weather. If it had been a medium to large one, I definitely wouldn't have been using my camera on it... I'd be grabbing a shovel or the gun instead.
