It's a slant cut muzzle brake to reduce recoil for this rapid firing LMG. Maybe the muzzle brake is a bayonet as well?

you might be surprised. If the gun isn't well constructed it could jam when jam gets inside. If it's well built like the AK-47, it won't clog up from anything

Yeah, a jam is a jam and can make a weapon unusable. The Hari are considered to be the best gunsmiths and smiths in general in their universe. Technological advanced in every way, though few in number. It probably wouldn't be advised to use the muzzle brake as a bayonet, but I haven't thought that far ahead.
