I have a bad habbit of a bit different, but close kind: I always ensure DM it's totaly ok to kill my character and I won't take it personally, thenever the fight goes badly, and while they desperately try to think up a way to save my useless char, I just whisper "it's ok, it's ok... Let it go...".

Haha, I know It's happened to me too. I think a nice end that fits in the story is nice and it adds a flavour to the whole journey. Living as adventurers in a dangerous world isn't easy and it should feel that way.
