i don't know if i agree with the softness of this photo. it looks great, but, to ME, it would make a little more sense if this had a hard contrast that reflects the really rusty mailbox; also the dirt and stuff on the side of the road and bare trees. the sky looks great. the small gradient of blue to dark blue is nice. i think that gives the picture the sense of what is being shown here: desolate, dead, dieing, falling apart, worn, slapped by time.
those are my thoughts on this one. still is pretty awesome looking.

I think I see what you're saying. Also, the mailbox should be moved more to the right. It looks awkward to me.
