I tried making a design for him shortly after the others. Key word being TRIED. At first, I overcompensated and made him look all CRAZY and epic and gave him more modern, animeish proportions, with monstrous shoulders and feet, and loads of kibble.

It looked pretty generic and so-so. For weeks, I left the sketches as they were and wasn't content to do anything with them. HOWEVER...

...upon watching Vangelus' review of "Code" (a modern reimagining of Chromedome), I fell in love with the more minimalist aesthetic of it. He had a much more human shape, with a body that was boxy yet slender at the same time, showing that he had muscle on him yet was lean and clean. That inspired me to create a new take on this Optimus that is.... surprisingly reminiscent of his G1 incarnation. Instead of going all out, I decided less is more and settled for just making him look like he's just... a tall metal man, which is basically what Transformers are.

What do you guys think of this direction?
