I love Maleficent and you did very will with this image. It is how she could have looked several years before the movie (because she looks very young in this image). However, with how conservatively she dresses in the movie, I do wish you had moved the corset looking top a little higher on her chest. It seems just a little awkward to me. It doesn't look bad, just uncomfortable or awkward. you know, not properly functional. I have always thought Maleficent was very beautiful and you did a wonderful job at capturing that. Also, I know it may be an aspect of the style you used for the image, but her leg that she is showing seems to set back a bit, more like an animal's would than a person's. I do not know if that was intentional or not, but that is how I see it. The portrait is absolutely wonderful. I love her mountain castle in the background. I would love to see your interpretation of her dragon form.

Yea, I'm aware that she was more than a little conservative originally, but in keeping with the idea I wanted to come across I lowered the corset, and showed more than enough skin. lol, it really isn't meant to be very functional seeing as she's a fairy, her clothes don't really have to agree with the status quo. Heck, she doesn't really need clothes at all, they're just a technicality... for the sake of decency, or what little decency she has being an evil witch who curses small infants, that is.
The way I see Maleficent is being strong willed, dangerous, fierce, vicious, and just flat out malicious. She the type of woman who wears what she wants, when she wants to, and damn you if you don't like it. lol, sorry if the leg may look a bit off, but the base is not mine originally. If you check the link for the base you can see that I already set the knee back to make it look somewhat normal. The original knee was a lot more pronounced, as was the right foot which took a bit of work.

I do agree with your interpretation of Maleficent's personality. She is my favorite Disney character and that is exactly how I have always thought of her. And I really do love the outfit design. It just seemed to me to be a regularly designed outfit that was pulled down for effect (a strikingly good one) but may be in danger of falling down even farther. It just conflicted with my fashion instincts. Though, I could so see her wearing that in her younger days, before she went with the more dignified look she has in the movie.

Well you know...I'm not really into fashion a whole lot. But I did start on a Cruella doll and the neckline of the dress I put on her I similar to the one on this one, only she doesn't have a corset, it's just a low-cut dress. I'm one to always look for constructive criticism and it's fairly hard to come by. Haha, I'm sure there's people out there who just don't give it due to the fact that some people take offense to it.
But I really like having people's input on big projects like this, because it's a huge pain to get to the end of something like this and then realize you've overlooked something. If you're interested it'd be great if maybe you could give me some input on my WIPs?

Sure, I would love to! And a low cut dress is usually fine, just with the corset patten it looked a little off.
And I do agree about the constructive criticism. It is very hard to get. I may not be a great artist, but I know when something looks off to me. And, unless the poster actively rejects criticism, I do try to give pointers when I see something. That is how I wish people would respond to me. I am always looking to improve and cannot do that without mistakes being pointed out. I admire you for being a strong enough artist to not only accept but to seek criticism that will allow you to improve. That does make you better than 90% of the statistical artists online.

lol, welllll I don't know about all that, but it'd be great to have some say 'you know what, this looks a bit awkward' than just 'omg it looks awesome!'. I mean I thank everyone who thinks enough of my work to comment and say it looks good, but sometimes it's just nice to get people' unbiased opinions.

rotfl, well if I had to take a guess I'd say 3 days or so. Because I started, and had most of it done in the fist couple of days, then I went out of town for a few days, then came back and finished the rest for the deadline haha. It was a contest doll, so I wasn't able to include the dragon as originally planned. But I'll try to finish it even if I can't submit it for the contest seeing as I've already done the line art for it.
