Description
"You've never seen a miracle."What to say of "Blade Runner 2049"? I've always thought the measure of 'true' art was how much art it inspired in return. By that standard, this film goes above an beyond, creating a visual spectacle that you can't help but fall in love with and feel moved by. Villeneuve and the cast created something that not only maintains the level of thoughtfulness and spectacle that Ridely Scott's original did, but elevates it and dives deeper into the mythology of this barren world trying to figure out what to do with its post-humanity.
K, as played by Ryan Gosling has all the marks of the downtrodden, beat-up detective trying to make his way through the smog-filled cityscape of the future. With an added bonus: there's no mistaking he's a replicant. And he's told so and reminded at every step of the way, no matter how much he wants to forget. And in his struggle to be human, we are reminded of our own forgetfulness of what it truly means to be human. To be a part of something greater than yourself. To be unique.
A true instant classic, this is a movie I'll certainly watch many times over and visit with my artwork as much as possible, time allowed. This MiniCharacter flowed naturally from my fingers, always a sign of inspiration and I hope I've done a tiny bit of justice to the vision that this film has.
As usual, I hope you enjoy and let me know what you thought about the film if you've watched it!Β
See you tomorrow.

I watched it last night (at last!), and I was so amazed at the differences between K and Wallace's killer replicant, Luv. K discovers across the course of the story that he has a soul, he has feelings. Luv, on the other hand, is merely a nicely-dressed weapon that exterminates anyone that obstructs her service to her master.

I think the starting point is what defines their journey: K wants to see the miracle; to have a soul. While Luv wants to be loved by Wallace and praised as gis ultimate creation. You should never put your trust in a corporate tycoon π

Luv was very motivated.. ridley scotts recent infatuation with Father figures and Gods.. and Luvs obsession with that. "IM THE BEST ONE!"

It was a visually (and audio-ly) stunning film. Great performances from the whole cast and definitely a compelling lead. I like your rendition of K here, curious and sensitive to his surroundings, yet eerily calm. The only thing that could add to this image is a lone honeybee.

An absolute masterpiece of a film! I had such pity for both K and Joi, two artificial beings that wanted to be human so badly and yet all they could do was pretend at best.

It usually is quite revelatory to us humans how much we give for granted of our own nature, thus ending up apathic and our creations being indeed 'more human than huma'.

Sadly, there were so many people in the theater with me that whined at the end about it being slow and boring.Β It reminded me that I live in a world of Plebeians...Β If the trailers made you think it's going to be another mindless summer action flick riding the coattails of the classic and this was turning you away from watching it, then ignore those trailers and watch it!
If those same trailers made you hope that this was the last chance for 2017 to deliver a mindless summer action flick riding the coattails of a classic.Β Well, save yourself the money and re-watch RoboCop or Total Recall.Β Blade Runner 2049 sticks to Ridley Scott's style perfectly, and if you don't remember what that means, please watch the original Blade Runner first to set up your expectations.Β Maybe also watch some other classics to remind yourself what good film-making looks like, since good film-making hasn't really been in the limelight like this in about a decade.

I agree, sir! It is no wonder that it underperformed at the box office as the original did either; folks aren't into the art side of cinema these days. It's all about the entertainment and then they wonder why there aren't any modern 'classics'.

I was on the fence about this film, mainly because it was a sequel to something old (most remakes that do that fail) and the trailers made it seem like the action was going to be a focus (something the original film didn't) but your description gives me hope. Nice job!

Well, it definitely isn't about the action, though there's a bit of it, not to make things too stale. But it's got the same level of thoughtfulness mixed with nihilism that the first one had, so it's definitely a must-watch.

This movie felt like a "Real Movie",Β Maybe the steady focused pacing is what I liked about it.Β It took it's time to make the near 3 hours worth every minute.Β Β And it made it seem like if every movie took it's time like Blade Runner 2049 that they could all be good.Β

Agreed; this was an amazing sequel, that doubled-down on some of the inspiring elements of the first. With this kind of directing, I'm hopeful that Villeneuve will be able to make DUNE justice, finally.

Thank you very much, good sir! I'm always hesitant to babble on in my comments, but I always loved to read the motivations beyond a piece of artwork, so I try to give some insight and especially if it means sharing a work of art I think folks should not miss. You won't be dissapointed by this film at all; it's got such a melancholy environment, yet at the same time, it's relentless in its emotional outpour. It really is an amazing piece of cinema.

It's an excellent movie. I love the story, although the last act seems a bit rushed, and I also like K's character and personality very well.Β
The action scenes were great as well, and I love the cityscape design of the world of Blade Runner!
Yeah, the replicant identity seems a little too obvious.Β

Glad you liked it, man! I agree that the final act could've been a little more in-tune with what we saw earlier. I especially found Deckard lacking a bit. But it's just a minor nitpick in an otherwise superb film.

Of course, I just find it hard that the enforcer lady was killed off that quickly...for a replicant.
I was actually half-expecting K to just unload EVERYTHING into that replicant enforcer until she's dead, but it didn't happen.
And also...the main villain of the show pretty much got away scot-free, and what's not stopping him from having surveillance on K and Deckard?Β
